Yeah, in RL I don't see the harm in the odd bit of real fighting on the pitch, but UFC is just wrong IMO.

| Quote: Roofs "To be honest I used to love it when the Hull derby would kick off on the pitch. The last season we played Hull in Div 1 (think 1997) there must have been at least one fight in 3 out of the 4 times we played them.
Is that why the fans decided to start fighting on the pitch instead?

| Quote: Gazemous "Is that why the fans decided to start fighting on the pitch instead?'"
No, that was an isolated incident which was caused by a number of factors, e.g. the Paul Cooke situation (at the time), bad stewarding and Hull fans invading the pitch.

| Quote: Alexs Dad "You can't beat a good brawl. A 10-15 second straightner to clear the air, beltin. If you dont like it, watch netball.
Paying to watch genuinly tough forwards, the likes of Lee Crooks, Nicky Kiss, Kevin Ward, Kurt Sorensen, Brian Case, Kel Skerret, Tim Street, etc was often worth the entrance money alone if you knew they were up against a like minded player.
With the modern day 'who can fall on the ground and play the ball the quickest' routine, most of the biff has gone.'"
But I think you are missing the point of what these guys did.
Kurt Sorenen was a great player and I loved watching him. Part of that was that he was a big tough guy.....but he didn't go out to start a fight. He played rugby and anyone who got out of line better watch out. The back line in his later days would not have been nearly as good if they hadn't had a tough pack.
If it was a brawl every week then Offiah wouldn't have scored his tries. He scored them because they weren't worried about going for the pass because if anyone came in late Kurt would sort it!
I never saw him go out and hit someone for nothing. (and none of the others either, maybe Tim Street apart as his fuse was VERY short)
The cheap shots are done by the less hard more cowardly. Newton springs to mind.

| Biff is normally an extension of the passion and aggression it takes to play RL. Part of the game is getting on top of your opponent physically and mentally and if that means a quick scrap, so be it. I don't want to see 13 muscle-bound automatons drearily running in with no fire in their bellies and no aggression.
On the other hand, there's vid on YouTube of some South African (I think) pummelling a smaller and defenceless British Lion player as he lies trapped on the floor. It's a vicious and cowardly attack and he gets battered to a pulp. A few handbags and punches thrown on a level playing field is one thing, but that is another.

| Nothing wrong with a bit of biffo, makes things more interesting.
It's what made the Saints and Leeds games' atmosphere at KR earlier in the season, the atmosphere that night was electric.
2 teams knocking 10 bells out of eachother is a great sight.
As long as it doesn't result in a 5-minute all out brawl like a Russian rugby union match recently, then i dont mind.
BRING BACK THE BIFF!!!

| I think a bit of a punch-up is okay, clears the air, but the major problem is the inconsistency of the disciplinary system; who you play for counts more than what you actually did. A prop for team X punches someone in a fight and gets 3 games, a prop for team A does same thing and gets off with nothing. We need a more transparent system, even if that does involve the RFL giving up some of its discretionary power over players and clubs.
