| Quote: Offside Monkey "I'd suggest that Saints v Wigan is, mainly because not only is it a derby, but both teams are at the top end of the table the majority of the time.
However, the Hull derby is a very special jewel in RLs treasury of entertainment, just because of the passion generated. Is it true they'd sold 15,000 tickets before last friday?
Who gets bigger crowds in Hull, RL or football?'"
Hull and Rovers crowds combined exceed Hull Citys crowds.

I do always enjoy the Hull derby, not sure if this year's will have the skill factor necessary for a classic though.'"
The Good Friday Hull Derby has been great viewing since rovers came into SL. Even last years 36-6 was a close contest upto the last 15 minutes.
Rarely is any derby a very skillful game, there is too much at stake for continuous error free / flowing rugby. Providing the two teams are fairly evenly matched, the intensity of the game and ferocity of the defense is what is usually remembered.
I do hope the officials for any derby game take the occasion into consideration before making knee jerk decisions. I am not advocating mass brawls or down right foul play, but these games do tend to go beyond a simmer at times. Keeping 13 men on either side for the good of the game is an important factor.
Club bias will always sway opinion. Hull FC being my team means I think the Hull derby cannot be matched, mainly for what it means to the fans and the atmosphere is generates.
I have been to Leeds / Bradford and to Wigan / Saints games. Neither of which appeared to be quite as vital to their respective fans. If they lost they were disappointed rather than devastated.
From my point of view I will be just about inconsolable if Hull lose the derby even when, as we are in this case, we are underdogs.

| I am biased but the Hull derby is a massive match. If you lose, just going out to the local supermarket and seeing the Rovers shirts being worn and gloating about the win is a horrible feeling - with the other games not being played by teams in the same City, i dont think there is as much deep rooted rivalry and utter distaste for the other side as there is in the Hull game.
But that doesnt mean that it will be best quality wise - they invariably are poor in terms of technical skill due to the intense pressure that is on the players from both sets of fans.
Both the defence will be brutal.....

Hmmm, not something I would remotely associate with HKR.

Meant to type 'But'
I think they will put it about - Burns and Patterson will be used to high intensity fixtures and Tuimavave and Paea are big lads

| As far as the best game goes, the Hull derby is one of the worst generally because of the pressure of the occasion. Where I think it has the edge is passion.
Anyone i have spoken to who has been to one or been near either set of fans at the magic games tends to agree that in terms of crowd intensity, Hull and Rovers games are unrivalled.

| Biggest genuine derbies for me are in order.
1: Wigan/Saints
2: Leeds/Bradford
3: Hull FC/Hull KR
4: Wakefield/Cas
5: Warrington/Widnes
6: Cas/Fev (when available)
7: Leeds/Wakefield
8: Leeds/Cas
Based on locality, history and recent form and the fact we all hate Leeds

June was a generalisation of course. But from the times I have been to st v pies or bulls v Leeds the losing set of fans were, mainly of the opinion that it was only 2 points, not the end of the world.
In the cold light of day, it is only two points, but the a derby defeat bites much harder, IMO.

Agreed.
I can never understand people that say it's only two points or that they'd rather beat someone else than beat Rovers. The amount of grief you get from people everywhere from losing a derby or the amount you can give you when you win, as well as going into the supermarket and seeing black and white or red and white means that the derbies are far more special than a normal two points.
