Just watching this Union Gloucester v Bath on TV. (3 weeks of BT Sport left). Unfortunately no sign of Burgess yet. I know I was brought up with Rugby League and will obviously find Union absolutely crap. Well, again what utter garbage. Just two aspects of the game I've put myself through. A load of aimless kicking but, (noticeably) without the clapping. But mainly scrum after scrum after re-set scrum, re-set scrum After scrum etc . Without exaggeration, every scrum has ended up (eventually) with a penalty being awarded. What dross. Have to laugh, even the Union types on commentary are saying that their rules should be changed so that a knock on etc means a penalty to the other side to avoid all this scrum nonsense
Had to laugh when they suggested that when a player gets the ball, they should look up rather than run into their own player in front of them!
Sorry to go on but feeling a bit spaced out after that first half garbage.
Hoping Burgess will get on. But given the numbers on the field (30 v only 26 in RL) and the stupid rules, I'm beginning to see that in their game there is not much one man can do to improve things. Their problem. Here we go, second half (yawn) (smirk at how seriously they all take themselves).

For what it's worth, Sam Burgess got on for the last 11 minutes. I honestly can't say it was worth the wait. He got one pass (which he passed straight away, creating a try) and wasn't required to make a single tackle!

As I said, every scrum ( re-set scrum) ended with a penalty. Apart from into second half. A prop got sinned binned. Meant one or two scrums had (under their rules) to be "uncontested". The Union type commentators were so excited that the ball came out of the scrum and got passed to the backs! That was until the prop came back on and things went back to normal!

Had to laugh when even the Union commentator was so cheesed off with how crap things were that he referred to the Union forwards as "fat boys getting over-paid".

Obviously Sam Burgess will have made new mates and is being very well paid but I honestly wonder what he must think he has got mixed up in.

Good job Sam takes it less seriously than me and some others on here: his own Twitter header describes himself as "A Northern lad living in the South-West playing a bit of "ruggers" (my inverted commas) for...Bath". Got to laugh - or you'd cry at the waste of talent.

I didn't watch most of the game, but flicked over and happened to catch the last 15 minutes or so and what a sorry, plodding excuse for a game that was. Even in the 15 mins I saw it was scrum after re-set scrum; scrum, penalty, scrum, line-out. I think a someone scored a try or something but really it was lost in the fog of boredom and a desire to fire a taser at Austin Healey's scrotum.

As it was I caught Sam's spell, but nothing of note to mention apart from one ironic cheer from the Gloucester crowd when he knocked on a loose ball. Bath got the scrum anyway thanks to an earlier offence, such is the nature of RU. And, er, that was about it.

Would love to know what Sam's really thinking after a few games. He's playing a game where, for all his size and outstanding explosive power, he's far from the biggest, strongest or indeed even at 18 stone, the heaviest, and there are rarely gaps in defence. He's as big as many forwards but more agile and athletic, yet he's not as fast as many backs. Yet the game never gets going. It's stuck in a quagmire of over-zealous referees and rules and a reliance on set plays and uninspiring gameplay.

I would suggest the bloke who subscribed to a channel to watch a sport he neither likes or understands is more deserving

I know Rugby League people in general don't want to do anything to stop players switching codes because of hypocrisy if they did but Union try to sell the dream of playing for England, fame and fortune, but it's about time we balanced that by selling them the reality of being bored , underused and undervalued while being made into yet another England scapegoat when they fail to win the next world cup.

Burgess is there for the money not the challenge. He knows how sht their game is, all rl players do. He knows the greater challenge was to capt england to a 4nations win. If some muppet is going to throw a shed load more money at you to play a game that is less than 50% as demanding on you then you'd be stupid to turn it down. Hopefully he won't get too fat before he makes it back to the NRL.

you'd think going by some of the posts on this thread that theres never been any bad games of RL ever, and that SB has never played in a boring game of RL in his life

Having suffered too much of the game last night, in the hope of watching "Slammin Sam's ( ) progress, it has to be said that, as a spectacle, that was absolutely awful.
How do the media hype up such an utter pile of cr@p and persuade the general public to watch such a tedious, penalty riddled "sport".

Let's hope that Burgess is happy counting his gold coins.
