Ottio is a good signing for Widnes

Yeah, the lad has a decent skill set, big, quick enough and can break tackles. Not sure where they've brought him to play but I'd imagine the wing, maybe . I bet they'll be kicking to him on last in the oppo 20 a fair bit, he's got a great vertical leap, helps being 6ft4 and an ex-volleyball player mind. Won't have cost them much either.

Hitchcox could be on his way elsewhere to free up a non-fed spot in the Cas squad for a big prop.
That would leave us with Eden, Lo, Minikin and Clare.
In the long term, Minikin is going to end up in the centre I think, so I imagine he’ll play a few games there this year when Webster is rested.

Garry Lo is much better than Minikin.

We have signed several players, and one of them is Jack Littlejohn from the West Tigers who is the replacement for Michael Dobson.

You never quite know with recruitment. Superstars sometimes turn out out to be useless, and players previously thought to be useless sometimes become superstars. However, its not a very exciting bunch of signings for Salford. A few guys from the lower leagues and a couple of overseas signings that only the most avid fans of the NRL will have ever heard of. Tbh the only one I know reasonably well is Burgess and he is bang average.

I watch a fair bit of NRL and can't remember Littlejohn, although I must have seen him play at some time at Wests. The Fijian Nakubuwa, I only know from watching him play at this WC, no surprise though I'd never heard of him before that since he's only played 2 NRL games and is 21. From what I saw of him he could do a decent job for Salford though. Also I know he came towards the back end of last years but McCarthy a solid SL quality forward.

Looking at who they've brought in, apart from Burgess, they've gone for a quite a number of young inexperienced signings, which is interesting. Also while MK was in charge they'd bring in some quite well-known talent, seems a little different this season coming. Surely for Salford though it's all about building, or at least maintaining on what they did last year.

Its not a terrible squad they have assembled. But very little jumps out at you. Theres no position where you look and say they are really strong in that area. Its all just pretty uninspiring. If a few of these unknown quantities fit in well and have good seasons and Lui stays fit and in form then they might do ok, but I expect to be seeing them in the qualifiers, and they could struggle in them if they dont go into them with a healthy squad. Interested to hear from a couple of Salford fans. Am I being a bit harsh?

Clare has played full back as well, so that could be in Powell's thinking. I was disappointed when we got rid, thought he was a great prospect.

salford wont be spending as much as previously, thats why the incomings are uninspiring now... could be a long slippery path downwards now and the fans that wanted koukash gone will soon be wishing he was back!

Don't agree. Trinity have proved you can be very competitive on a low budget - if Salford have some smart people in charge they will do OK, though this season will most likely be really tough.

Like another poster said huddersfield have hardly announced any Cameron Smith esq type signings, you'll be in the same boat when Davy goes, however Koukash is appointing a board of trustees, and I'll guarantee he'll still be pulling the strings.
