That makes 7.'" I have my doubts about McManus and Hughes, their clubs lose enough money as it is although I suppose a few hundred thousand more down the drain is immaterial. Leeds would definitely vote against.

Yes, nice bloke and a cracking player but never the man to rebuild a SL side and take them to the top in a million years.'" I can't see any problems with a coaching team of Goulding and Long? They could bring in Garry Schofield too.

| As Brad Pitt would say.....'inevitable'
As soon as he was putting bids in for some of SL's best players like Tomkins and Morley (even if the chances were slim) then it was obvious he would be looking for a top coach too.
Would I be right in thinking that their isn't a limit (unlike a squad) to how much salary you can pay a coach? This could see him succeed were he failed in player recruiment (so far).
What would look foolish though would be if he now fails to land a coach who is a clear level or two at least above Veivers.

Yep, and I think what will eventually get put to the vote won't be just a simple "raise the cap" but something that other clubs can live with too. If a few clubs at the bottom don't like it, I'm afraid that the external pressures we face, particularly from the wealth of the RFU and NRL, mean its time to cut them loose to play at a level commensurate with their finances, unless they find their own Koukash - we've held the top clubs back for a long time now. If you don't have a plan to catch up and join the wealthier clubs, we can't wait forever.

| Crazy decision, made too hastily.
We will never know whether Veivers was up to the task in hand, due to the circumstances that affected Salford in the close and pre-season.
Yeah, we find out that the new owner is prepared to be ruthless but, Veivers had rock all to work with and should have been applauded for even getting a team together to start the season.

| Vievers' coaching ability is probably the smallest issue if Koukash wants to turn Salford around quickly. That's unfortunate for Vievers, but also a plain fact.
Koukash has discovered that star players aren't interested in joining the current side. He's realised that he needs a big name coach first if he wants some of these players to have another look. I hope he also realises that money alone is not the problem (or solution) - Warrington have showed very clearly the difference the head coach can make.
Whoever he appoints will tell us all we need to know about whether Koukash is the real deal.

Not really.
When the new owner took over he made it very clear to everyone at the Club that if they were not up to it they would bring in people who were. PV was not given long, granted. But his performance was not great even before the takeover. Some peoples judgement is clouded by the fact that PV is a decent bloke and well liked in RL. That didn't mean he was capable enough for a head coaches job. As others have stated, you need the right man in at head coach to start the ball rolling. For me, the replacement will be the statement that Koukash means business. Most of the NRL coaches are tied into long contracts with a few exceptions. Tim Sheens is being linked to the job in the Sydney Morning Herald, and for me, would be the statement the Dr is looking for.
I think some people forget that sport is a business whether you like it or not and sentiment needs to be forgotten to have a chance at success. Every man and his dog seems to be overly vocal at the speed in which changes are happening at Salford. With most claiming that success wont come over night. Probably not, but Salford are a Club that needs things changing fast to give them the opportunity to start that road to better things.

Certainly I know who I'd rather have walking into a meeting with a potential sponsor.

| Hopefully whoever gets appointed at Salford has the testicles to sit Dr Koukash down and point out that this isn't football, he hasn't bought the RL equivalent of Man City and that he needs to be patient and build the club from the ground up.
Otherwise, I fear we could end up with an RL equivalent of Abramovich.

God forbid an owner with cash wanting their club to be successful. Salford should know their place shouldn't they? How dare they target players who are light years ahead of what they already have. Maybe they should sit Ed Farish, Graham Lowe and Andrew Chalmers down too and tell them the same thing. They clearly know nothing about building a successful rugby league club. "Know your level" would be a good place to start.
Koukash and his management team clearly have no clue about our sport, and we'll see that when the "top" clubs who do know what they are doing target Vievers as their next head coach.
