| Quote: Sir Kevin Sinfield "Got to disagree. Toronto, Toulouse and Catalans need to be in Super League (and excempt from relegation if they were to ever end in that position) for the greater good of the game.'"
IF they get there through the league then all well and good.
I just don't agree with putting them in because of where they are.
And I certainly don't agree with them being exempt from relegation.
Personally feel that every club should follow the same set of rules. And that's it's wrong to allow certain clubs exception just because there not from the UK. After all there is no profit that they/or the potential marketing etc will actually work.
it's not something we're ever going to agree on. But neither view should be discounted or wrong. It's what debates all about after all.
Mind you Toronto could get there through the league. As they seem to be getting a great result today.

You shouldn't put them in JUST because of where they are, but if SL got a guarantee from French tv that they would pump a load more money into the league if Toulouse and Catalan were in then I don't see how SL could turn that down, it would mean more money for every other club in the league.

Exempting Catalans from relegation!
They've all on performing when the trap door is open.

No need to go on. Your point is not well taken. You are confusing a small town (Wigan) and its suburbs, with two big cities (in London's case a giant city). The Borough of Wigan has just over three hundred thousand people. Greater London has over 8.63 million people. The districts of London such as Chelsea, and Tottenham, that you mention are at least as big as, if not bigger than, Wigan town (which is just over 100,000). Tiny Leigh is barely deserving of its own post office, let alone a rugby league team.

Population of Leigh= 52,000
Population of Everton= 15,000
Population of Chelsea= 41,000
Leigh is to Manchester what Everton is to Liverpool and Chelsea is to London
Try again!

Fair point.
But just can't see it happening. otherwise the French league would be alot better than it is. And would not have lost the amount of clubs. In France RU and football
Are far ahead of RL. And as with the other nations mentioned it will take a long time for us to get near to substantiality given the other sports and there presence in the market.
Although the clubs and respect boards, don't do near enough to promote the sport. And make decisions that don't help , like starting SL on opening 6 nations weekend. Gaurenting us less coverage in the media etc. Until we can get it right in our own country, it's hard to see how we are going to get it right in others.
Look at tonight's SuperBowl, alot of people don't like NFL. Or care about it, yet everyone nows it's on.
Yet talk to people about the challenge cup or the GF, and unless you follow the sport very few do.
Until we get a presence in the markets we're just not going to get the money.

| Quote: leedsnsouths "Population of Leigh
You are confusing the populations of precise legally defined districts of London, and the district of Everton, with their broader geographic fan bases. Chelsea and Tottenham are famous areas of London which attract supporters from broader highly populated areas of southern and northern London respectively. Moreover many of these clubs' fans are located outside London, even outside of the UK!
Leigh's primary and basic legal relationship is with the Borough of Wigan, not the city of Manchester. Do you really think that residents of Leigh consider themselves part of the Manchester metropolitan area? Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal etc. are a part of the London metropolitan area.
Leigh is a very insular small town and suburban enclave which is unlikely to have many fans located even in nearby areas of Wigan Borough such as Astley, Tyldesley, and Atherton, let alone the legally separate town of Bolton which is outside the Borough of Wigan.
Do you think that Leigh has a single international fan club? Manchester United has many as does Liverpool and several of the various London football clubs.

The reason Tottenham and Chelsea draw fans from other areas of London is because they are football teams, not rugby league teams, which you clearly know as you point out their international fans. Do you think any SL team has international fans (not including ex-pats).
If there was a Chelsea or Everton rugby league club they would likely have no fans from outside there districts
The point is that you cant say that a particular club can never grow its size because of its area, if rugby league was the biggest sport in England and Leigh were one of the better clubs, they would attract plenty of fans from Manchester as well as all the towns you mentioned and you know it.

You’ve obviously never been on the m6 south bound a couple of hours before the likes of Wigan, Saints or Warrington play. It’s full of fans in their club strips coming to watch their teams
