Why?? if your employer offered you a nest egg you would take. What the hell is shameful about that?

There are many CEOs that are taking pay cuts and realigning their salaries in line with company growth and “for the greater good” (see easyJet most recently). If you’re not successful at your job then the first place you look is in the mirror. Sadly it seems that Nige is so far up his own backside that he thinks he is worth a £500k golden handshake. More unbelievably is that in 15/16 FY (can’t seem to find 16/17 figs), The RFL made just £200k EBIT so I’d be interested to know where the £500k is coming from.

Have you created some acceptable threshold that should be observed nationally. is £300k OK?

Im not sure which CEO's you are referring (Easy Jet accepted, I note you didn't mention Carillion or Capita two in the news at the mo) but to some £500k is a lot but make no mistake its nothing in the world of business. Forget the fact the game is based in the north and salaries are smaller than London. £500k as a pension at 55 would give you possibly £10k per year. its peanuts.

£500k is massive to The RFL, you cant generalise a sports governing body amongst corporations. £500k is a tiny amount for the company I work for but none of the shareholders even take dividends as profits are reinvested. Wood probably has a generous pension on top so that is irrelevant.
FTSE100 CEO salaries fall 17pc - https://www.ft.com/content/5cfa1cd6-779 ... 495fe6ca71
The trend of execs receiving massive pay outs and obscene salaries is well on its way out.

Absolute rubbish. The best companies will pay what it takes. If that is disguised as a small salary (the headline figure we all see) with a large pension, significant stock, golden handshake package sat behind it then thats what they will do. The best get the best.

You've speculated there to strengthen your argument.
Quote: "you cant generalise a sports governing body amongst corporations'"
Why not? Have a look at where the past heads of the FA have come from and gone to.
Your argument is completely flawed. You've been dazzled by a figure of £500k.

| You think the post of CEO of the RFL should have a salary comparable with that of the CEO of the FA?

It means the RFL control the information flow.
They release the information now as it would have been discovered when the relevant set of financial statements were released (in about 18-24 months time).
Announce it now and avoid accusations of trying to cover it up in the future.

Yes, you are outdated. Wood has been offered this, is not like he has stolen this (in the legal sense)
Why bring in "Northern towns" into this? That just exaggerated the stereotype.

| Bollox to the stereotypes. I still think £500k is too large a sum of money for one individual with a questionable track record who is staying with the organisation anyway.
He may be entitled to it going by the fine print of the contract but that doesn't mean I have to be happy about it. I'm disappointed a contract like that was agreed anyway. That kind of thing is no guarantee of getting the best person for the job as is often claimed. The directors of Carillion, Fred Goodwin, Dominic Chappell etc prove that. If I were a RL journo I'd be asking Ralph Rimmer if he would be asking for a similar in his contract if he's successful in becoming CEO. I'd also be asking if he was happy with the sum being paid to Wood. I know what the answer will be but I think this sort of thing doesn't get the attention it deserves.

That is demonstrably untrue; and suggests a serf-like mentality that doesn't become anyone with an ounce of self-respect or dignity.
There are high profile examples on a weekly basis of massively paid individuals who head up organisations that either spectacularly fail, engage in criminal activity and rip off shareholders, pensioners, their employees or their customers - or a combination of all of them - and walk away not only free of sanctions, but with a tasty golden goodbye to boot; just look at the financial crisis that happened a few short years ago - very few casualties, no arrests and they are back to paying out the same level of rewards and bonuses, despite being bailed out by taxpayers money.
The system is rigged - and just how Big Nige came to be a beneficiary of it is a strange mystery that I cannot understand or explain.
