| Quote: wrencat1873 "Try and keep up.
The council were asked to "loan" the cash needed to build the stadium until the developer (Yorkcourt), whom they have allowed to build on the site at NM, paid them the agreed amount.
Micheal Carter said that he would pay any interest on said "loan" to avoid the council being out of pocket.
The issue here is that the developer, having secured masses of building land in the back of promising to build a community stadium, is being "allowed" by WMDC, to renege on their promise to build the ground, contravening the terms of the agreement and the council by "allowing" them not to build what was promised at the public hearing are stuffing Wakefields hopes of continuing in the top flight of RL and failing to fulfil their obligations as a Metropolitan Council.
It's not a case of building a RL Stadium instead of spending the cash on Hospitals, schools etc, they simply need to enforce the agreement everyone signed up to.
Rock all to do with austerity just local government intransigence and this has gone on for too long.
How we can go from "peppercorn" rent to "commercial" rent within the last 5 weeks is just mind boggling.'"
Even a half wit could understand what's gone on, perhaps jools hasn't quite reached that standard of education yet.

Here :-
Indeed, I think many people are waiting with baited breath for W.T.R.L.F.C.'s statement as to why they've thrown the teddy out.
Maybe the commercial rent has increased from the original announcement, maybe it has something to do with who gets the refreshment revenue streams from match days?
Either way, it's same old, same old, in the life of a Trinity supporter.

| Common denominator in all failed schemes for a new ground in Wakey - WMDC and their cas shareholding leader Peter Box.
Up until a few months ago when the national press got on the case, he was on local radio saying the s106 agreement and its enforcement was nothing to do with the council. This despite the council negotiating an apparent watertight s106 for cas new ground which sees a private entity in cas tigers ultimately own a ground for 1 quid
Prior to that the council allowed a separate planning application at Newmarket so that the huge building on the site does not contribute towards the trigger point for building the COMMUNITY stadium. When challenged on this point they said they had told Rodney Walker the then head of the stadium trust (who failed to tell anyone else about these meetings) and also that they had taken legal advice. When a freedom of information request was made to see the legal advice the council couldn’t locate it or remember who provided it!
It is easy to blame the club but I repeat what I have said previously on other threads, name me one new ground that has been built off the back off a RL clubs sole involvement. All have been done with a developer or council involvement or both.
Wakey have made great strides in recent years to become a more professional outfit and the ground is the missing piece of the jigsaw.

get the hell off this forum, that post has far too much common sense and on top of that there doesn't appear to be a hidden agenda to it either

The difference being that Belle Vue is an awful ground for viewing a game of RL, whereas I've always enjoyed visiting the Jungle (aka Wheldon Road).

Oh I certainly understand- the council are being asked to loan money they now don't have. The company involved are being asked to spend money they don't have.
It matters not one jot what wakefield were "promised"
Lots of people were "promised" pensions they have never received.
austerity affects cash flow HTH.

Is austerity why the giants had to cancel the saints game as they couldn’t afford to hire some temporary stewards whilst the usual ones had all gone to Wembley with town?

Couldn't agree more and this is the ideal solution IMO, But it won't ever happen as both clubs are far too stubborn to go down that road.
How long have Wakey and Cas actually been talking about building a new stadium away from Belle Vue and Wheldon Road?
It seems like a hell of a long time to me despite not actually seeing anything happen except for more let downs and further delays etc etc

100% spot on. I reckon than rather losing a few hundred disgruntled fans incapable of accepting change, both clubs would get close to filling a 12k stadium. Think of the benefits to the area with staff needed for 22 match days rather than 11, the income from the associated facilities, the community opportunities......it makes perfect business sense which is an alien concept to some folk in RL circles.

Really, You clearly have no idea what this is about, in which case why embarrass yourself without you have no knowledge of the situation, or your simply showing your shudds bitterness towards all things Wakefield.HTH.

| Getting a bit tired of hearing these ground share/merger comments again. Perhaps Leeds and Bradford could merge solving all of Bradford's problems. Salford could merge with just about anybody. Wigan and Saints, Warrington and Widnes, the two Hull clubs and hey presto plenty of room for Toronto, New York, Boston and anybody else..............Would you watch it?
Trinity (and indeed the people of Wakefield) just want what they are owed and what they were promised when the developer was granted planning permission on green belt land. I'm sure that many residents of Stanley, Newmarket and Altofts would have objected to the plans had they known the CUMMUNITY stadium was never going to come to fruition. I know I would. That great white box must be visible from outer space.

| I cannot believe that people don't see the main injustice here ......the question everyone should be asking is ....
A developer has acquired prime land " what is the city of Wakefield getting in return "? simples!!!!!!

Wow. That's a lot of rent....Harlequins charged us £215,000 PA for 13 home games and 1 cup tie, with other cup ties being charged at £20,000 a game....1/2 a mil for 15 or so games seems steep. Does that include match-day costs like stewards etc?
