I’d wager that Leeds Council wouldn’t have been as inept as Wakefield when it came to spotting a two bit developer pulling the wool over their eyes.

Leeds council most certainly are tossbags.
Sticking their nose into Wakeys business.
Bailing Yorkshire Cricket out with millions of pounds, allowing the monstrosity of a new stand for Yorkshire cricket plus the huge new floodlights yet denying Leeds planning for a new South Stand for ridiculous bloody pathetic reasons.

There's nothing inept about what Councillor Box and his cronies are allowing to happen.

Surely you can't be suggesting that several senior Coucillors being season ticket holders at, and some rumoured to be shareholders of, another club in the area has had any influence on decisions that are currently being or have been made recently by WMDC?

| This kind of thing happens often, unfortunately.
See it a lot with housing developments, where a council will tell a developer they need to build X% of social or affordable housing before they'll give planning permission for them to build on their land.
Developer agrees, goes away and builds a development with fewer or no affordable homes. Council objects - by this point the properties are already built. Developer pays council to go away and shut up.
Developers know that once a process goes past a certain point the council aren't going to pull the plug and risk the time and money that has already gone into it going to waste. They've got the council over a barrel, and if anyone does kick up a fuss they can be quite easily silenced with a brown envelope or two. It's naive to think it doesn't go on, the construction industry is bent as a nine bob note.

Nice analogy but in this case Wakefield Council didn't object even though they had warding that a mansion was to be built.

Now it's sheer bad luck that it hits Yorkshire teams rather than a curse that kicks in somewhere over saddleworth moor, but it's bloody annoying nontheless.'"
Tetley's Stadium in Kirklees. Also liked mount pleasant.
Also Fev have a great ground built using a can do attitude and volunteers not waiting for WMDC to bail them out.
You think people treat a new ground for Wakefield as a priority when you have to now pay for the dog wash at Pugneys?
Also for an alternative view isn't the new cold store creating jobs within the Wakefield district? That must be something a council looks for aswell.

What Fev have done with their ground is absolutely wonderful, something they can be incredibly proud of achieving.
So we are looking for another defunct football club to steal the stands from and give to Trin?

The seats were from Elland Road.

Just down the road from Wakey, Rotherham United's former ground Millmoor is still standing and unused. Get it dismantled and brought up the M1.

| Bad memories of that place. It's the place where I heard the 'C' word for the first time.
With regards the Yorkcourt development. Isn't this more a case of the council not having access to as expensive lawyers as the developer rather than incompetence?

I genuinely spectacularly misunderstood what you meant by 'C word' and inexplicably thought you'd been diagnosed with Cancer at a football ground.

Why was Cas mentioned at Millmoor?

I would say both, but at the end of the day, the stadium was used as a carrot to get the development through.
New jobs created, more business rates for a cash strapped council, no stadium for the long suffering & dwindling Wakefield support, move along people...
