I havnt seen the incident so cant really comment, but trying to kick the ball out is illegal, using your legs to prevent the ball being grounded is not. There can be a fine line between the two sometimes.

| For me there was potentially a much worse incident in the Hudds Wigan game, if we are getting super sensitive about such things. As Wardle scores his first try a Wigan player (I think Bateman) comes in with both knees. As with Ablett I will give him the benefit of the doubt, that he was trying to get part of his body under the ball, but the damage could have been much worse if he had connected.

I have. Stopping a try with the foot is not illegal and happens (or attempts at it) happen regularly and plenty of tackles near the try line involve the defender getting their feet and legs under the body of the attacker.
Kicking the ball out of the hands is illegal.

| Why did referee not ask video ref if there were grounds for awarding an '8 point try'? What more has to happen for refs to award an 8 point try?

It should have been an 8 point try. In the refs defence he gets 1 look at incidents, if we went to the video ref every time a player takes a knock we'd never get the game started.
I don't see why the video ref can't tell the ref there's something to look at in that situation where the game is stopped though.

| Might not be illegal to try and stop the grounding with your foot but it's sure as well illegal to do it in such a manner you miss the ball entirely and kick a player in the jaw and leave him apparently heavily concussed.
Should have been a red and 8 point try but the disciplinary can and hopefully will deal with it.

| The Ablett incident is absolutely ridiculous, Ablett has deliberately kicked out toward the head of a player AND connected. It's deliberate in the sense of kicking out, his foot doesn't just accidentally swing toward the players head. It his Ablett's responsibility alone not to put another player in a situation of endangerment which his act clearly does and is no less than a shoulder charge to the head.
It should have been a straight red and a{EDIT is what I meant}, how the officials can't see him swinging his foot in Monaghan's direction is beyond belief, that Cummings is saying it isn't within the remit of the VR to check it is , they've done it at CC games in the past (Raynor got sent off on the back of a VR looking at him tw'tting Rat boy so there is precedence)
Given a lazy flailing slap got Crookes of Hull sent off recently that this doesn't is another indictment of how micturate poor the officiating is...

It shouldn't have been a penalty try, the try was still scored. It should've been an 8 point try.
As for how the officials can't see it? Watch it again in full speed, it's incredibly difficult to see what happened.
Cummings didn't say that and there isn't precedence. Cummings said the VR can't check without being asked to by the on-field ref.
The Raynor/Tomkins incident was referred to the VR by the on-field ref.

| Yeah, I meant 8 point try.
Yes Cummings did, he specifically said that they are not allowed to ask the VR on stuff like that and yes there has been decisions made for foul play using the VR, how much simpler could it be.

No he didn't. Cummings said the on-field would have to ask the VR for help, just like Thaler did in the Hudds v Wigan game for the Brough kick to touch.
There isn't a precedent of the VR making a decision on foul play (or anything else for that matter) without being asked first by the on-field ref. Not since the Tansey incident at Cardiff anyway.
