I would suggest that it is a players bad defensive read and because of the "it's always someone else's fault" culture they will not accept being caught out.
There were errors in the game from all involved. That's normal and CONSISTANT.
This isn't a game played by robots and computers.

Thought the ref had a good game and it's disappointing that most posts on here are about the Ref, when it was a great game and some excellent performances from players of both teams, many of them young and have a great future in Sl and hopefully internationally.

Watkins
Sutcliffe
Sneyd
Clarke

Are the players we should be taking about not the ref.

Also what an effort from Peacock, looked a good crowd also.

Sorry for being positive

"I'm sorry, but I would hope that we would beat Cas with a 1 day turnaround." An arrogant Wigan fan a few days before we stuffed them 18-4 at the JJB.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_42181.jpg

Agreed with everything you put Dave. (No e on Clark though! Sorry, ultimate pet hate!)

Excellent game to watch. It was one of those where you daren't take your eyes off the screen. We should have seven games like that every week.

Castleford were excellent and if they can keep that team fit and healthy throughout the season, they will do very well. Daryll Powell deserves a lot of credit for the way he has turned that team around.

I think both teams were very well disciplined, considering how ferociously the game was played. It really irritates me when people look at penalty counts as an excuse to bash the referee and I thought Silverwood had a good game apart from the Tom Briscoe drop-out call as mentioned before.

Similarly, people calling out Silverwood for not taking Leeds back 10m should look at the video again and Leeds' line speed in defence. At times, it was lightening quick and in that second half, they managed territory superbly. I can't recall Castleford getting out of their half much in that last 15min.

I'd also agree that the short turnaround was probably a big factor for Castleford and I'd like to see some sort of agreement put in place that says teams with a Thursday game should play on the Fri / Sat prior. Four days recovery is not enough.

There was more complaining at the game about Cas being offside, than there were Leeds offside. I don't know how it looks on the TV yet, but at the match you could see things clear. Leeds line defence speed was slow last night, Cas were quicker in that department. However, neither side was offside, as Silverwood on most plays went back 12 yards himself, allowing the leeway for the players to be slightly in front of him.

The major complaint of Silverwood was the holding down. Something Cas were doing all game, and something you can understand when they had such a short turn around they needed the game slowed, not fast, something all teams in the same situation would do.

Quote: Fully "And yet more inconsistency with the obstruction ruling tonight too.'"

There has being no inconsistency at all this season with the obstruction ruling. They have it spot on at the moment, unlike other seasons. They are quite clear on the rules, and it is much easier to interpret. If the man passing the ball is on the left shoulder of the dummy runner, and the man receiving is on the right, or vise versa on the on the left side of field, then it is not obstruction. As long as no player runs behind the runner.

They have applied that all season so far, and it is working. Last nights, especially the first, were not even close to pushing that ruling.

RE offside/line speed, it really doesn't help that all sides seem to take two or three steps forward when playing the ball, this makes the line speed look a lot quicker.

FWIW I thought it was a great game, Cas look like a great side I hoe they can keep this form up.

I'd agree with this. There's certainly a lot less farting about by the VRs as a result, they know exactly what they're looking for.

No problem with either the ref or Leeds tactics - a great game and a great atmosphere.

Are Tigers slowly becoming the new Entertainers ? I have'nt seen a bad game or a bad performance yet this season.

I really enjoyed the game.

As others have said, cas have been really impressive so far and last night they were bang at it again and, even though they were a bit tired going into the last 15 minutes, showed real pride in their defence and kept us at bay when i expected us to score a few more with the game gone.

A top 4 finish is a real possibility for Cas if this continues for the rest of the season.

Also the fact that players and coaches have become wise to the possibility of preventing a try by pretending to be obstructed, so they fling themselves at the attacking player, go down, then throw their arms up and appeal for obstruction; it's broadly similar to the pathetic spectacle of a peak conditioned strength athlete scrambling around like a new-born deer when getting back to his feet after a tackle, in an attempt to milk a penalty for interference.

So long as these things aren't dealt with, players will continue to be coached to do them; thank goodness for Ben Thaler, who will at least deride a player for milking by shouting "Gerrup and play the ball!" Next step should be to penalise of course, but it seems that the integrity of the rules have been sacrificed at the altar of maintaining 'the spectacle.'

Losing Chase was the catalyst for Cas. Best thing that's happened to them, I reckon. They now have structure.

Chase is a cracking player, but only when he wants to be.

silverwood had a pretty decent game and kept the penalty count down. The only exception was the lift and 5m carry of briscoe for a cas dropout. If silverwood didnt see it his touchy or in goal should have seen it. it was amateurish and infuriates teams when something so obvious is missed

What about the ward knock on in second half? Bounced of his chest and landed behind him (without ward moving forward, and from a stationary position), touchy stood in line with it 2 metres away said it was fine, silverwood stood 30 metres in front overruled and gave a knock on.

A quite ridiculous decision.

Pet peeve that, all teams are equally guilty. Attacking player, as he is getting up to play the ball leans forward into the marker then falls to the floor/struggles to play the ball, as if he is being interfered with.

It's good that refs are wise to this 90% of the time. ''gerrup, play on, milking it!''
