| Quote: Andy Gilder "Except those of us who were told on Tuesday through contacts that both were in McNamara's bad books and wouldn't be playing in either the semi or final if England make it.'"
If this is true, then McNamara really needs to improve his man-management skills. It's all very well taking a zero-tolerance line, but part of the skill of management is avoiding getting to that line, and ensuring your staff do not want to cross it.
Obviously, you occasionally get nutters (Hock, anyone ?), but during this tournament, we've seen the loss/exclusion through misbehaviour of Hock, Graham, McIlorum, Hardaker and now possibly Chase. That's 20% of his entire squad. As a teacher, if I had 20% of any of my classes acting up in such a serious way as to reqire disciplinary action, it'd be me the boss would be looking at, not the kids. And that's kids. Grown adults are usually a bit more rational/reasonable (usually, Mr Hock).

Can't really pick between them to be honest, but Charnley's better form this season and his link-up play with Tomkins gives him the edge. Briscoe has suffered from barely getting a pass in HullFC's drab style of play for the last few years.

If any player has mis-behaved in the week before England's biggest game in decades then you have to question their motivation and intelligence.

| Charnley v Briscoe
Charnley is quicker, better feet, broader skills range.
Briscoe probably a better defender but that's without much research just the few games ive seen both pkay in.
Would have Charnley over Briscoe

I agree. But if one in five of your squad breach disciplinary rules so seriously they're permanently or temporarily excluded, then you have to question the nature of those rules, and the management of those players.

| Briscoe's the better all round player, but Charnley scores tries and takes people on the outside.
Id go with Charnley.

| I hope he has cos he has forced SM's hand because there was no way he was going to alter his HB's.
I just feel the Briscoe would be the better option..I think Charnley has too many errors in him. Charnley is in though, so play on.

He played about 25 minutes against the Aussies so he's not really had the opportunity to. He was poor in that time granted but I'd give him another crack. He's the type of lad that needs a wake up call every now and then and I think he'll have had that.
I'd go with 4 props plus Sam Burgess in this game.

| Well, I know I will really look forward to Saturday now. No Chase is a massive plus. Even if it is Widdop or Burrow next to Sinfield we have a player that isn't ridiculously off the cuff yet still attacking and inventive in a manner that ensures his team mates are on the same wavelength. This allows for structured attack and whilst I am not the biggest fan of Sinfield I think this frees him up to concentrate on his game a little more knowing he has a true halfback alongside him.
No probs with the rest, both wingers are on form and know where the line is, good strong forwards and backs, gonna be a cracker!!
C'mon England!!!!!

| Tomkins, Charnley, Watkins,Cudjoe, Hall, Widdop, Sinfield, Graham, Roby, S Burgess, Ferres, Westwood, O'Loughlin
Farrell, Hill, G Burgess, Burrow
Mossop and Ablett to miss out.
That's how I'd go. Or play Mossop instead of Farrell and use Sam Burgess in back row.

| If there has been disciplinary problems it might have been better if the England management learned from what happened at the beginning of the tournament and been open about it. That way if there is then the players could be shown to have let down their country rather than having this guessing game again.

Not Farrell. He offers little at this level. Ablett over Farrell every time. I think Mossop, like Farrell, is also fairly fortunate to have been selected for the squad, but I'd take him over Farrell if necessary because of his extra size. Farrell is one of those players who look good in SL because opposition defences aren't always very good, but just doesn't have the ability to perform to a good standard against an international-class defence.

Squad's getting a bit light though now so they may need to be reintroduced if we pick up a couple of knocks. I think if they had been dismissed from the squad the news would have got hold of it.

| SM should get it out there if he has booted players out. More trouble in camp etc etc..
Give the Kiwis more reasons to underestimate England on Saturday
