If we will this it is a far, far bigger achievement than England winning the Union WC (who with their playing numbers and resources should win their WC every time if they had any idea how to play their game).'"
^^^^correct^^^^^ on all points although whether they will be is a separate issue.

| Regarding all this about Widdop, you also should know that it's in the Outside Backs that England struggle against Oz. Darius Boyd is underrated. Don't expect Widdop to win it for England. Ryan Hall is overrated, so is Charnley.

| Quote: Gotcha "I quoted nobody, go back and have a look. You were just being paranoid because you knew you had posted incorrectly.'"
I wrote the second reply to this thread, you wrote the third and most definitely in reply to mine, arguing against each point I wrote. It could only have been me you aimed your barb at.
Quote: Gotcha "Tomkins has not stood out in any game yet against Australia and New Zealand. Would I drop him because of it? no I wouldn't because he is a class player, just the same has Sinfield proves week in week out, season after season, when playing in a good team.'"
So two very good players at club level, in very, very good teams, can't replicate at Rep level. Peacock could, that is my point for Sinfield and I have no problem with your choice of Tomkins but he does offer us something very different to everyone else on his day, an X factor.
Quote: Gotcha "Nothing selective, the exiles game means jack poop, and will probably be dropped. If changing captain it should be with a long term goal, and build around it.'"
The Exiles game will stay or something else will take its place. What chance on Graham being released by his club for a mid season fixture on the other side of the world? Changing long term can be a goal but sometimes continuity is more desirable in the short term.
Quote: Gotcha "Your not right, and given nothing to even argue a bit that you are right. Tell me which coach would have got better results and put us within a better chance of winning this world cup?'"
Rather incredible that I offer an olive branch to say we see things differently and you come back and say crap like the above. I rather believe am right but I will concede that you too have a different opinion on this that will not be the same as mine. your response? "You're wrong, I am right." Grow up.
And as for coaches? I didn't even mention anything to do with who should replace McNamara. Where did that come from?
And FWIW I like the job McDermott has done at Leeds and London before that. He has something that turns faltering teams into performing teams. Sounds like just what England need.

| Sinfield has been selected at 7. He isn't the best scrum half in SL, Danny Brough is with perhaps Matty Smith behind him. Sinfield wears the 13 shirt at Leeds but plays 6. He is too slow for 6 at Intl level.
In Intl rugby 1st and 2nd receivers have to be fast, neither Sinfield or Chase have pace. Brough has pace as does Widdop.
I thought McNamara was going to Bath RU after the World Cup. I do hope so!
The England coaching job I think will go part time. The leading contenders have to be Wane and McDermott. If the GB gig turns up then I'd expect Wane and Harris to be the coaches in that set up.

| Blimey this site depresses me at times. We are four days away from a home world cup semi-final and a major conversation point is who is going to get fired or retire if we lose. Until a defeat arrives (or should I say if a defeat arrives), why can't we just revel in the occasion, these should be the best days for years for English Rugby League fans

| Really starting to me off all this repeated Sinfield bashing, people should grow up or shut the f##k up.
Just complete jealousy, and lack of respect for a truly great player, specially from narrow minded Wigan fans who can't stand the fact that their so called great captain has never measured up and achieved the things Sinfield has.
If Sinfield was Australian and played for Melbourne or Brisbane no one would doubt his talent, oppositely if Cameron smith played for Leeds he'd get the Sinfield treatment.

| Widdop is a good player, but not what many people are making out. Elsewhere I have seen people hyperventilating over him, yet know for a fact they do not watch Australian rugby league and are simply going off the fact he plays for Storm.
After 2008, the big criticism was that the team didn't gel. To remedy that there have been a lot of training camps throughout the year, it is a bit difficult for those to be effective if your pivotal player isn't there.
Had Widdop come over here last autumn things might have been different. However I am struggling to find anything to criticise personally.

| Well we know who the scapegoats are don't we.
It's becoming clear that some people would rather England lose than McNamara or Sinfield be successful. People on here often wonder why rugby league hasn't taken hold in other areas of the country, or why the media doesn't pay it the attention it deserves, or why sponsors don't flock to the sport. This pathetic, petty parochialism that infests Rugby League at all levels is the biggest reason why.
McNamara has done what we've been crying out for an England/GB coach to do for years. He's built his side over a few years around the halves. One of whom is the most successful captain in SL. If he'd picked someone totally unsuitable, fine. Have a go at the coach all you want. But he clearly hasn't done that.
If we lose then it'll be because, as a team, we didn't play as well as New Zealand. Which, unless its a poor performance from England, will not be a disaster. New Zealand are a superb team, as are Australia. It won't be because of Sinfield, or Chase, or McNamara, or Charnley, or Mossop, or any one individual.
I hope McNamara carries on as England coach after the World Cup, I think he's taking us in the right direction. I reckon Sinfield will retire internationally regardless of the result.
I'd like to see the England coach, whoever they are, taken on on a 4 year contract in the future. Beginning and ending a few months after the World Cup. Give them 4 years to build to the next World Cup.

| Quote: tony1983 "All this swiping at Sinfield is embarrassing. If Sinfield was poor in a sea of superb England performances, then you might have a point. But the reality is when England play well, you can pretty much guarantee Sinfield will have put in a good show. So why does nobody else cop the same amount of flak? This only serves to demonstrate the value of Sinfield to this England side.'"
Because the people on here are clueless k hunts, with little knowledge of the game, and like sheep tow the party line of sinfield and the halfbacks being the problem.
If England win the World Cup and sinfield stars - "well why didn't he win us those other tournaments? He's not consistent enough"

| Quote: OzWelsh "Ryan Hall is overrated'"
Why, has somebody rated him the greatest winger of all time? (now that could be seen as overrated)
From what I've seen of him, he consistently proves himself to be a World class winger and has been fantastic in this World cup. Why you want to single him out to have a negative pop at is beyond me.
So I would rate him as one of the best in the World, if you believe that's overrated then tell me the reason why.

To be honest the ramblings of message board addicted fans are considered laughable by most 'normal folk'.
