| Just one of those things. Yes its annoying but, its just a mistake and we all makee those.
Everyone plays to the whistle, so if he gives a set of 7, or a set of 5, tough. At least it wasn't on the last play of the game and plenty happened after that incident.
More concern is the number of tries scored from forward passes. There were 4 or 5 in Sundays match and having seen the highlights from the weekends other games, there were plenty elsewhere.

| Tend to agree with the previous: as a way of awarding a try that should not have been, mis-counting the tackles is pretty much a rarity in comparison to missed forward passes, knock-ons etc.
Wish I'd seen Holdsworth's set of one though

That I would agree with - if young players are sent on the initial courses free of charge, as part of their development plan with whichever club they're playing for, it could have two-fold benefits; firstly, increasing their understanding of the stress and difficulty faced by the ref during a matche, which may lead to less dummy-spitting and a greater understanding amongst players and ref's, and secondly, some of them might decide to take further courses as insurance for the time when their playing career comes to and end, thus increasing the pool of potential first-grade match officials.

| maybe they should hold 6 small pebbles in one of their hands like cricket umpires, then simply swap a pebble to their other hand when a tackle is completed.... problem solved... we can also rename 'tackle' to 'pebble' to avoid any potential confusion.

Black Backgrounds/Zoot.gif Freedom for supporters of the government, only for members of one party - however numerous they may be - is no freedom at all. freedom is always and exclusively for one who thinks differently.

| Not been given a game this week - Cas' - Hull's Thomason, so I wonder if he was initially down for that.

Wouldn't have thought so. Richard Silverwood is doing 2 games this week and James Child is on holiday this week so guess he was down for the Widnes game.

| That would seem to be the case - incidentally, Uncle Alibert hasn't been downgraded but dropped completely.

That's probably because for a start we do not have linesmen in rugby league we have touch judges. A touch judge has just 3 responsibilities, they judge all matters regarding touch, they judge kicks at goal and they provide input where requested from the referee. I was at the Dragons match and in the corner where the incident happened and from my view Salter got to the ball first and knocked it on and if there was a Cats knock on it came after that though I couldn't be sure. Obviously having seen the clip of it I have different information now and would have called for the knock on but unfortunately when you are in the middle and have to make that decision you don't have the replay facility and can only go on what you have seen from your own view point. The fact that having had further information that you did not have at the time that may have changed your decision doesn't make you a bad official.

| No sympathy for the man. If we mis-count things at work it costs us money if it's too many and sometimes customers if it's too less. I can accept mistakes happen but they usually end up with a ticking off in the office. Alibert's dropping for this weekends round of games is his ticking off for his inability to be able to count to 6.

| I suppose it's reasonable that, just like in any other job, refereeing errors of this magnitude have consequences for the responsible individual; it doesn't help WTW though.
