I suggest you put the name of your next offspring down for harrow school at the moment of conception.......start saving now to meet the 23k a Term (3 a year) fees over 6 years, then another 100k for Oxbridge and once the little fella/lass has achieved a BA in Politics and managed to get a job at the Telegraph, get them to publish your thoughts.....although I doubt you'll be alive to read them in print.
The article itself was designed purely to get a reaction.........it did it's job, although I agree with some on here...it was purile at best.'"

NRL expansion? Sometime soon, maybe......:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_9857.jpg |

| Shows how weak our leadership is and the game generally in our heartland city. You would never see anything like that written about AFL in melbourne, they would be burning down the offices!
You can tell there has been no player scandals in the off season when the telecrap resorts to puff pieces like this to paint the game in a negative light and get more hits on its newspage!

That reflects well on the NRL, shows they're not hysterically oversensitive and can take in their stride. Strength, not weakness, IMO.
Silly, frankly oafish, attacks re-affirm my believe RL is best. When Clarkson fell in love with RU, I was pleased it wasn't us. Some people you want on the other side.

You only attack what you are scared of (and I don't mean a bit of trolling for bites and giggles).

| Still, RL has a lot of people out there in the media that hate the game for one reason or another.
Mike Carlton
Peter Spitz
Frank Keating
Spiro Zavos
Stephen Jones and so on.
You don't see other sports getting regularly attacked like RL does from all these different journos.

The point about the World Cup is a bit unfair too. Association football is a truly worldwide sport, after that how many sports have fully professional domestic competitions in more than a handful of countries?
Lot's of sports have World cups, that a pedant might say should be 'International Championships'.

No it reflects weakness, the media know they can run stuff like this rubbishing the game to get a reaction without any fear or reprisal from the code because it has a weak CEO and a board that is 1/2 incompetent and the other 1/2 th own the people writing the damaging stories.
Sadly we are saddled with the weak CEO for another few years but hopefully Grant and the IC will have the balls to actually stand up for the game.
No other code gets dumped on like RL does, that is not a coincidence. "

Thats because the journalists you mention have a real fear about Rugby League overtaking their boring one dimentional game witha fair press coverage.

Spot on this. The comparisons with Clarkson are appropriate. He has made his reputation out of being odious and insulting, and enjoys playing on that reputation to enhance his infamy.

Just so we are clear here, there is a massive difference between attacking something and ignoring it, which, with the exception of Stephen Jones is what most Rugby Union journalists do with regard to Rugby League. I am sorry for using the bolded words in the same sentance BTW.
I repeat.....the article was a nothing bit of bait that the author cast out hoping to get some airtime on the web...which he has due to your giving him and his stupid article it's own thread.

Sadly JB your post reflects the paranoid attitude of a number of rugby league fans who have chosen to post on the article and here.
Personally I had a smirk when I read the article.
That a fella has gone so out of his way to talk about Rugby League in this way.
You can see it how you like but to me it looks like he has to reaffirm his opinion so many times and in such a childish manner it makes him look the fool.

| Paranoid? Ok point me in the direction of an article written about ANY sport published in a major paper in that sports heartland that attacks a sport like that did. Go on just one! Anyone will do, go on try, then come back and call me paranoid.

Relax mate and enjoy this little gem from 2003:
www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2003/oc ... rugbyunion
You see, I found that quite funny. 'be-blazered, drunken, honking, smash-faced scum of the earth.' Tee-hee.
