Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

The U20's are often coached the same tactics and methods of their SL team so the games are often faster than the Championships.
If Wigan U20's can be picked for Widnes when on duel-reg, surely that shows that they must be at a similar standard.
I don't think feeder clubs should be made from the Championships side - if we want to grow as a sport we need strong divisions at all levels.
Maybe an affiliation between clubs would be good though like is done in football. Wigan could loan players to Leigh and Wigan could have some benefits in regards to signing players. Benefits both parties.'"
I stated my opinion , just as you dud yours
We have the duel reg system , that is all we need
As for your club loaning players to Leigh , that is highly unlikely , the toss pot you have for an assistant coach will take care of that , so no thanks we'll stick with Wire and Saints thanks

What would be the point? why would Wigan want the hassle and costs associated with running another club?
Why not just build a relationship with 2 or 3 lower league teams, send youth players out there on loan and link up with coaches and other non-playing staff.

Like the current dual reg system?
Let's put it this way. Not one person here, no one, would honestly be happy for their own club to be a feeder club. Especially when the natural club to become a feeder team to would be your closest team (and therefore almost certainly fiercest rivals). People happy to introduce feeder teams are never supporters from clubs likely to become one under the system.

Oh right okay, I'll take your word as gospel from now on.
I was using Wigan and Leigh as an example - for some clubs an affiliation would work best or for other clubs duel reg would work better.

Oh please. He is best known for being a missing person. A man who plays games with others on the internet every waking hour accusing me of having my priorities wrong. I like a debate as much as anyone but a fake one? Designed to provoke, what? Mild discomfort in the participants? What a complete loser.

I can understand that 'new' clubs like Skolars could easily use an affiliation with London Bronquins to get going. But as you know Steve, it's hard for Leigh and Wigan as there is a rivalry that gets political from the pits to the councils, before ou even start sporting rivalry.

That of course would be the easier option and part of what I mean by the affiliations.

But if it's going to help the club in the long term then why not? Let's say Wigan give Leigh Sam Powell, Logan Tomkins and Dom Crosby on loans. Those players could help Leigh win the league and maybe secure promotion in the future
Quote: SmokeyTA "Explain ' Affiliation ' ?'"
Basically the teams work together in a partnership to help each other succeed. This could range from on-field things like players to marketing.
Let's say Wigan loan Leigh two fantastic players and a up and coming coach who help them to win the league. Wigan's staff and players get experience while Leigh get some players and staff with good potential and qualities.
You could substitute it with anything - off field roles, facility sharing, joint training days for experience, staff exchange. It would all depend on the clubs that take part and what they want to achieve from it.
I'd happily see Wigan be affiliated with Melbourne if it brought good things to each club

That's fine , because W1g4n are not in competition with Melbourne , but they are in competition with Leigh

And how is that different to what's going on now with dual reg?
At least under dual reg, as one sided the arrangement is, the championship clubs get a choice in who they choose to take on like they should. The minus points are that they can lose a player they need with no warning. But you are advocating changing the system. So I ask you, without weasel words, how would the system differ from the current system?

It was an example.
So you're saying if Wigan offered you an affiliation which would create opportunities for you to loan some exciting, up and coming players and staff you'd say no?

It would be up to the teams how they would run it. I'm just saying that a long term affiliation would probably be better for some clubs than a few one off duel-regs.
The main difference in an affiliation would be the long term part of it all and the fact that there could be off field incentives
