| Quote: Wheels "Good stuff!
I graduated last year so don't have much to do with them anymore, bar watching the odd game. Hopefully they can regather next year and put a decent fully committed team out.
BTW if you see Will soon and he says a bloke called Lee sends his regards, you'll know who now

| I tend to use Rhinos and Bulls but still use Wire and Cas and Wigan are simply Cas and Wigan,
can you imagine the crowd singing "We all hate Loiners"
My club has always been the airlie birds despite there brief existance as Sharks.
Not sure why Tinity needed the whole wildcat addendum or if they did they should have gone for Wakefield Wildcats

| Quote: J20 "Chemics! Interesting point as some stick a lot more than others, whether that's marketing or just the way it is, is another question though. Widnes however are doing more & more merchandise based on the town, town crest etc and not so much pushing 'the Vikings' thing.'"
but to be fair, at least 'vikings' is relevant to widnes. A history of Viking settlement in the area and as you probably know its believed that 'widnes' is derived from the Norse for 'wide nose' describing the shape of west bank.
cant remember ever seeing a Rhino in leeds, a bull in bradford etc etc.
Castleford tigers makes sense to me, they do more or less play in Tiger colours.
i used to think the worst was the 'Blue Sox' once adopted by halifax, but i came across the mighty 'New Jersey Turnpike Titans' today

| Quote: Dico "Some stick, some dont.
With warrington, I call them the Wire and im only 23 however the wolves was a brilliant initiative, along with the 'Wolfpack' to get kids in when we were 6 or 7 years old and many many lifelong fans. In those years we averaged about 3500, I genuinely put the success in our attendances down to the hard ground work done 15 years ago and part of that wasthe reinvention of the wolves. Besides our town crest has a wolf on.'"
I'm 26, call them Wire, am a Wire fan and don't even come from Warrington. I'm up the road and people call them Wire even if they don't know much about rugby league.
I agree on the Wolfpack et all, but I really can't abide the crest, and I do sometimes thing the club has totally abandoned the Wire element, which even to me as an 'outsider' has some real pride and tradition to it.

| Rhinos is a bloody ridiculous name, but somehow it's done a good job of sticking so a fogey like me will just shrug their shoulders and consider that very few seem get poor by underestimating the taste of the general public.
The thing about nicknames in US sports is that the nicknames almost always had some sort of geographical or cultural connection to the city or franchise involved (Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, Steelers, Patriots, Celtics, Saints, Yankees, Orioles and so on). Obviously the RL marketeers who think they're copying the Americans instead prefer random out-of-context animal generators.

| A lot of Batley fans dislike the 'Bulldogs' tag intensely. Our club fundraising organisation B.I.S.S.A. released a 'retro' shirt last season which heavily incorporated the 'Gallant Youths' nickname and the old club crest and it outsold the 2010 replica shirts by quite a margin.

To be fair, there are some farms around Bradford. There isn't even a zoo in Leeds.

| Centurions.
I like the marketing idea, but surely someone could have come up with a better name than that? Having said that, the original version of the club badge was one of the best of it's time.

I can remember Cas having a tiger incorperated into the club badge way back around 1991.

Well before Super League. And because we play in black and amber (and sometimes white) (traditionally in hoops).

| People at work, who take an interest in RL, refer to Huddersfield as Giants. And I do say Bulls, though not exclusively!
And I never call Wigan, 'Warriors' or Warrington 'Wolves'.
