NRL expansion? Sometime soon, maybe......:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_9857.jpg |

| good move but really does anyone think any of those fans that will go to the NRL trial would have gone along to the GWS game instead? It makes a good media story but really has no impact on either code. Dally keep an eye on the media day after and let us know which game they give most coverage to. That is what is most important.

AFL has been spending millions on advertising in nsw and queensland for a decade and still they get 80,000 - 100,000 watching live swans / lions games in their markets
its why channel 10 is dumping them and chasing us more
you just cant polish a t**d but if the AFL wants to blow its millions trying good on them
union blew $40 million in 4 years taking us on, afl is doing exactly the same thing
taking on rl in nsw and queensland is suicide

Yes you will!
Fox will attempt to get the lot IMO.
To do this, I believe they will need to show a number of games on FTA..........and now that analogue TV is being buried in favour of Digital, Fox will simply set up a new FTA digital channel to adhere to this requirement. They will do this in the hope that enough fans are 'converted' by the FTA covergae to buy a PayTV subscription, but even if that fails, the ad revenue alone will make it pay for them
Remember....Fox-Murdoch-NRL are all connected......and if anyone here thinks any of the networks have the money to stand toe to toe with Murdoch then they need their lumps looking at. Murdoch has cash...the other networks will have forecasts based on ad revenue predictions that they will need to take to the banks lending divisions.......if I were the Independent Commission and or the NRL/ARL I would welcome Fox as the sole broadcaster (so long as they pay enough dally messenger )

| a positive post, nice
the only real channel that can bid for all of the nrl is the free to air networks.
channel 10 are looking like wanting most of it, putting some on the free to air, and the rest on their digital channel
murdoch isnt starting a digital FTA channel but 10 could well do what you suggest

I asked before...do Fox have a FTA channel available to freeview digital cutomers? If they do, he can simply switch its scheduling to include the FTA stuff. 10 will not have the CASH......they may be able to borrow against projected revenues, but Murdoch has the CASH.

fox dont have access to a FTA digital channel
channel 10 has loads of cash, they are part of the current AFL deal that pays them $800 million over 5 years.
channel 10 now has james packer as one of their major shareholders
money isnt an issue for them, and theyll make money off it
especially if they can get a viable digital channel going by stealing foxtels RL coverage

That would be the worst thing to happen to the game out here.
Either way, all the same merkins in Australia from FTA, Pay and Telstra have their pathetic little fingers in each others pie, RL is fvcked.
They used and abused the game to set up Pay TV knowing it was the only code capable of getting the numbers it has now, they drip fed the code for 15 years on 14 mill a year FTA, and then Fox pays AFL twice as much for less games and half the ratings RL gets.
These merkins will kill the game, that I'm sure.
The only reason I can come up with for this, I think their whole long term purpose was to merge the two Rugby codes.
Kill Australia and RL is stuffed.
And I'll say this now, if this is the plan, AFL will take over and destroy Rugby as I won't watch any merged code and most people I know won't watch either.
Thank you Murdoch and thank you Packer, may you both rot in ing hell.

| the funny thing is eels mate, the nrl has prospered off the back off terrible tv deals, hostile media and other sports with way more money, taking our players and a better media
how will they cope with a level playing fields.
we turned the corner around 2000, every year since then rl has gotten stronger
whereas 5 years ago it was you, me, calixte, ea and kurt angle the hardcore fans, now aussie sites are full of people who hate union and afl, and want to see rl crush them
its time

| Murdoch has a plan, why else does the code get ripped off all over the place?
In England, the SL belts the RU games on Sky, yet the RU clubs get more money and 1000 times the exposure and more top level games a week.
That's why Sky decided to show a championship match on Thursdays, it was because someone else showed interest.
They know what product they have, they just choose to reduce what it's worth and its exposure eaxh year.
Why?
We all know deep down.

Packer owns part of 10 and has shares in Fox sports. Collusion will once again be the name of the game.
Packer owns 52% of Consolidated Media, which in turn, holds 25% of Foxtel and 50% of Fox Sports. The Ten networks’ first digital channel ONE competes directly with Fox Sports. ONE’s own figures suggest more viewers are tuning into ONE than all Pay TV sports channels combined.
www.throng.com.au/ten/packer-ten ... s-interest
our best hope for serious $'s is that 10 buy NRL rights as its anchor to really launch OneHD to the next level and become the leading digital channel.
We need $800million ish to do what we need to do in the game over the next 5 years. We also better get $15mill a year for Internet and mobile rights this time.

exactly
10 are the massive wildcard
a serious challenge to Foxtels monopoly will mean a massive increase in our TV rights, maybe IN EXCESS of 1 billion
ten should try and get most of it, with 7 the rest
if 9 and fox lose the nrl watch them sink without a trace and come back next round and bid the nrl through the roof

TV in australia would seem to be a tad crowded and could maybe do with losing a couple of stations.....but I will remind you of this.
News Corporation are the third largest Media and Entertainment company......only behind Disney and Turner. To say that a localised TV network, regardless of who has what money and how rich certain backers may be can stand toe to toe with them is insane.
I will repeat this....on this planet....Rupert Murdoch sits at position number 3 when discussing media reach, growth and general control of what people see, read and hear.
Rugby League in Australia and England have been an important part of his "sports media" strategy, and I very much doubt that the owner of 50% of the competition that will be the subject of new TV deal bids, regardless of any Independent Commisson, will not get what he wants.
I repeat, a man as powerful as Murdoch doesn't get "turned over" too often....I mean, he wanted the UK Broadcasting rights to the RUWC....but wasn't permitted to bid for them as it must be shown on FTA...........so SKY TV have (subject to retification) bought ITV.......the rights holder.....
Not saying you won't get any more money and I am not saying there won't be a war.....but I am saying the statement
...points to a new level of Naivety from its poster.
