Leave it as it is.
Must have been the youngest British side in a LONG LONG time (Kev Brown was the oldest back ffs) and it wasnt THAT bad. We're two years into franchising, and theres a few heading over there slowly, roby next it looks like. We'd go well with 7 or 8 players over there and producing our own to fill the void over the next few years.

After 2013 if things are still in dire need of an overhaul, then we'll figure it out.
Slow growth not stupid panic options

Quote: old_faithful "It's all well and good for Gary Schofield and Gus Gould to come out and say that 30 odd of our players should go and play their RL in the NRL for a couple of years, but lets be honest, These blokes wouldnt be playing first grade week in, week out.

We have maybe a dozen players who could hold down a regular spot in the NRL, and thats being kind. If we did act on this, most of the said players would be unable to gain that intensity needed on a regular basis.

The majority of these players would end up training all week, and come game day, be plying their trade in the NSW/QLD cup, which would be no good too anyone.

I can't imagine the likes of Tim Sheens, Craig Bellamy, Wayne Bennett etc coming out and saying to their players, sorry boys, your playing reserve grade this week becuase were giving your English equivilent a run out to help their National team. It wont happen.

And the likes of Garry Schofield... Nowhere to be seen throughout the regular season. We need ex pros to endorse our game all year round, Getting them involved in the brooding of our future talent. Australia has this in abundance.'"

The same Garry Schofield that coached the BARLA under 19's team that went on tour to South Africa last year, and currently coaches the Yorkshire under 19's team? Oh no, he has no interest in the future of the game, or the next generation of players. Clearly not. icon_rolleyes.gif

Quote: Fallon "So we send our best 30 players to Oz. What then happens to SL? The aussies already laugh at SL. What would happen is that TV and attendance numbers would drop and the game in this country would go backwards..'"

Yes losing two players per team to the NRL would absolutely cripple the competition in the UK.

Nobody would go watch a Leeds side without Danny McGuire and Jamie Peacock for example. Or a Saints one without Kyle Eastmond and Leon Pryce.

gould said the same thing during the test match

ie the only way england are going to get competitive is to send 30 or so players to australia'"

This is a silly idea. It just makes our domestic game a joke and so it would wither.

If they were serious, they would suggest sending the top 100 Australian players to Super League where they could be brought down to our level but strengthen our league and weaken theirs.

So we send our best 30 players to Oz. What then happens to SL? The aussies already laugh at SL. What would happen is that TV and attendance numbers would drop and the game in this country would go backwards.

What we need to do is develop our own players and our own game not try and dump some in Oz and hope RL skills somehow rub off on them.'"

Agreed its a no brainer, who is going to support there team when all the best players are playing in OZ. Attendances would drop, creating less revenue for the clubs, resulting in cheap lower standard overseas players and young players not ready for superleague. If we want a strong superleague and strong national side we need to increase the intensity of the game with the best available british players. Bring the NRL (intensity) style game to superleague

At least Schofield, during his peak, actually played in Australia (I admit, his career was during the Winter, so it was easy to spend the off-season down under) in the toughest domestic competition in the world.

Compare that to many 'stars' that are high profile players and talk a good game by threatening to chance their arm in Australia and frankly spend their entire careers within 20 miles of Bolton ....

I know what you are driving at Admiral but your view (IMO) is to narrow.

There are many reasons are players dont go over to Oz such as they dont get the offers, they dont want to move their families half way round the world, they are already on good money here.
