| Quote: Durham Giant "Because it would get MASSIVE publicity for RL.
It would make HOUSEHOLD names out of RL players.
It would give MASSIVE opprtunities for RL clubs to market there teams ( eg come and see Olympic Gold medal winner Sam Tomkins at Wigan etc).
It would showcase the Skill level of RL.
And probably a dozen more reasons i could think off but as you do not want to use your brain why should i do it for you.'"
When it comes to Rugby League, my glass is always half full but I'm sorry, I don't see it working out like that
If England/SL players played in the Olympic 7's it would be MASSIVE publicity for Rugby Union not League and it would make household names of our star players who would then be offered multi million pound contracts to continue that exposure for Union clubs
As far as I see it - the best way to showcase the talents of Rugby League players is by them playing Rugby League not a completely different sport
Oh, and just because my opinion differs from yours doesn't mean to say I haven't actually used my brain to consider it - your post would have been far more gracious without the last sentence (but I'm learning that is the norm around here)

| Could you imagine the furore if it actually happened.
All you would get would be the likes of John Inverdale slagging the RL players off at every opportunity.
But saying that you would get the wonderful Claire Balding absolutely frothing at the mouth.

| Quick question... apologies if its already been answered.
What makes you think a side with British RL players would fare any better than a side with British RU players?

Anyway...I've been at work

| Players like Pat Richards, Sam Tomkins, Liam Farrell, Ryan Hall, Rob Burrow, Kyle Eastmond and Danny McGuire would tear the sevens scene appart.
GB would easily win!
Aus would have an amazing team if they used Inglis, Hayne, Hodges, Thurston, Slater and Folau.

| I watched a bit of the 7's yesterday its nothing like Rugby Union. One guy passed it in his own 22 and then other guy than ran and took a couple of players on.
Even the phases are played quicker more like the time of a league play of the ball.

| Come on Baz, did you see what Bradford did in the RU 7's at 'HQ'? They played Saints (i think) 12 hours earlier andf their bus broke down, then they won without trying.

| why would we want RL players playing RU? and do you really think the ERU would pick them? We should be introducing RL 9's back into the calendar then in a few years be campaigning for it to be in the C'wealth games.

| As well as SL and the NRL being mid-season, it would be the middle of SA's Currie Cup and NZ's ITM Cup. So it wouldn't just be RL which would have problems.
I'd imagine that the international RU authorities would have to come to an eligibility agreement, preferably amateurs only. In which case, we could encourage some of the BARLA lads to have a go.
On a related note- it's a pipe dream, but it would be nice to see Rugby League Nines in the Commonwealth Games.

| It depends on the clubs, really.
I know Huddersfield has stated it will never block a player from representing their country under any circumstances.

| why a pipedream? most of the RL playing countries are C'wealth countries. If we established 9's as a bona fide version of the sport I see no reason why it couldn't be in.
Should be a world 9's in Feb each year and knock out 9's comps etc
The spin off in terms of profile for RL could be massive. World 9's in Hong Kong/Dubai/New York etc
Our mining village mentality and poor administrators are the only thing holding this great game back

Its the fringe players who need a bit of experience if they're young or need some game time if they're older that get the call. Henry Paul was a regular on the 7's circuit for England for a while when he couldn't get a game with the team he was signed for. Hefin O'Hare, who is signed on for the Glasgow Warriors, was playing for Scotland this time around.
I think for it to become a Commonwealth game it needs not only to be play in a certain amount of countries, but also have a certain amount of national governing bodies in those countries, all ofwhich have to deal with amateur and elite participation. As well as regular comps and bits and pieces that I can't see the RLIF having chance to sort.

| Now I have a great fondness for Hefin O'Hare from his Huddersfield days...but if he is an example of international 7s then the RFL could send a team from Championship clubs, never mind the best of Super League!
