| McGuire shouldn't be allowed to even buy an England top, he has proved time and again that he isn't good enough at international level.

| Tomkins is a talented and exciting player with massive potential, just as Danny McGuire was seven or so years ago. It could be argued that McGuire hasn't quite lived up to his potential (he's been dominant domestically but not internationally. It should be mentioned though that he's been nowhere near as bad internationally as is made out. He was terrible in one game last year, but in most of his other big internationals he's been one of the brighter players in poorly-coached, well-beaten teams). We'll see how Tomkins goes with that aspect of his career. Too early to tell. Similarly Eastmond.
I'd certainly rank McGuire ahead of Lee Briers and Leon Pryce in making more of his talents over his career.
Rangi Chase also deserves a mention in this thread. He'd be blinding in a better team.

Apart from on Autumnal evenings in Manchester in October when Leon Pryce is nowhere near anyone on the eeds team, let alone McGuire.

| people always use mcguires failure to live upto potential at international level against him. but in reality...how many of englands top players over the last 10 years have performed well in internationals. sean long had one good game in the 2006 tri nations. james roby did ok in that tournament. kevin sinfield did well last yr. sam burgess has looked good at times. scully had some good games in his pomp. adrian morley has done well. martin gleeson did well in 2004. brian carney had his moments. no one has really performed well consistently tho.
The reality is danny mcguire is an exceptional talent who can do a lot of damage both in broken play and close to the opponents line (yesterday against hull for example). But if your always playing behind a beaten pack as he does at international level, how much can he be really expected to do.
For me, tompkins full back, with mcguire and eastmond in the halves come the four nations.

| McGuire's development has been held back with the way Leeds utilise Sinfield as the main kicker. If Danny had a kicking game close to Sinfields it would make him a more viable international halfback but as it stands he always needs to be paired with someone who can control a game.

Burrows is better than McGuire.
Plus I watch all the SL on TV but only part SL when Leeds are boring the rest to death!
Does that clarify things for you and the rest of the glory seekers?

| He's one of not the best. He's up there with the likes of Lee Briers, Kyle Eastmond, Sam Tomkins etc. Briers has a better kicking game than McGuire because IMO, Briers probably has the best kicking game in Super League. Eastmond is brilliant and will get better and better. Tomkins is class.
However, I wouldn't say he's the [ibest[/i.

I'd say you're not in a position to say who is better if you don't watch 'boring' Leeds very often.
And glory seeker?

| Maguire for England/GB has played behind very good packs probably the best in RL, and still looked out of place. He isn't good enough for international rugby, he has had more than enough chances. Very good domesticley!

You were commenting on the fact that we have no home grown players in the halves like yourselfs and Saints, yet our U20's topped the table this year.
