Get LEIGH outta wigan: |
|
| assuming quins will still be being financed & wrexham will still be around then i think the're safe, that leaves either cas, wakey or salford for the chop.
question...what would be the point of kicking any of those club out of the league for another local club when they are already producing players capable of competing in SLE.surely after the hammering the french took at the weekend it has to be another french club who gain entry to SLE whether they've qualified or not.

| Why are widnes such a shoe in??? win the rail cup and? what else? surely the teams who appears in more finals/wins finals, higher league position counts more than a bloody tick in one comp?
Whats to stop any team doing a widnes, winning the rail cup then doing nothing again for years and hoping you get promoted because you hadn't the balls to point out what a farce the whole sport is at the moment???

Basically all the type of things that all Championship clubs should be looking to achieve. The playing criteria is only one tick in one box. All that tick does is enable you to apply for the guaranteed place in SL for a club that fills all of the minimum standards for SL. The RFL would be well within thier rights to refuse say Barrow because they neither fulfil the minimum standards for stadium, youth developement and attendances even if they tick the playing box the maximum no of times (6 I think - 3 NRC wins and 3 GF appearances). If no club was to fulfil ALL the minumum standards the RFL would be within their rights to not allow any Championship in next time round.
In regards to the licence applications.
www.runcornandwidnesweeklynews.c ... -26571925/
According our Chief Executive the applications are in by November 2010 and the decision will be made March 2011. I had read some time ago that March/April is when the winning championship finds out who's got a licence but the club to drop out of SL won't be announced until later in the season. Fairly obvious that for whichever SL club is being ditched, if they were told in March 2011, the rest of that season would become pointless. Obviously the RFL have to announce it at some point but so soon after the beginning of the 2011 is a bit early to be telling them they're out.

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

reminds me of the Grand Old Duke of York......."when they were only half way up they were neither up nor down"
See your point though....what if the club that the RFL choose to jestison in March go on a cup run and are one of the finalists in the Challenge, or are sitting in the top 8 and comfortably ahead of the bottom 6............only to find out in August that they were off to CH1.......I suspect the fans of that club wouldn't be too impressed....
I say both clubs should be told at the same time, which should be March.....this gives the upward club time to search for SL standard players and the downward club time to get it's finances/squad in order for 3 years in CH1.

Widnes bid,
Stadium----Very Good but RENTED
Fan base----Falling alarmimly
Youth development-----good
Financial security------could leave tomorrow if the SL bid FAILS, As 1 man is funding it.
Barrow Bid
Stadium----tired, old but fairly new stand built and big redevlopment in the pipeline WE OWN OUR GROUND.
We recieve every penny it generates.
Fan base ---Risen in the last 4 yrs but levelled off a bit recently ,but the bigger home games still to be played.
Y D ----Recently announced plans for youth acadamys to complement the Laikers
F S-----We are managing our very small debts and self generated our running costs in the last few seasons, Contary to common belief we are not funded solely by DJ & DJ has put in 20 x less than the Widnes fella.

Seriously, I love your commitment, but if Quins and Crusaders are safe on the expansion ticket, then it will be a stadium issue that sees the current SL club drop down to the CH1......and I would think that to replace them with with a club that has a "big redevelopment in the pipeline" would be a little too stupid....even for the RFL.
Therefore I would expect Leigh, Halifax and Widnes to be the 3 clubs under consideration (unless tolouse win something, then add them as well).......unless Barrow can get the builders in pretty sharpish

I think the RFL are probably bored with that tired old chestnut.

Some facts for you.
Our stadium is actually ready for super league and was purpose built for us. Yours is a complete dive.
Our crowds have gone down, as have almost everybodies including yours in this division. Think of that. You had a winning team and your crowds still dropped off. Hmm. Out crowds are by far the biggest in this division though. They're comparible to where they were a few years ago, the circumstances are not the best at the club so this is understandable, hardly "falling alarmingly". Our youth development is not a recent announcement on a bit of paper. It's out there, its working, its not just competing, its competing at the top. You have a lot of work to do to get anywhere near where we are. You cant announce your going to do this and then compare your distant plans favourably to what we have now. Your financial criticism aimed at us could be aimed at most teams and is also pathetic. When we were looking for a new owner there were multiple, credible bids for the club. We've gone with the best, there are others waiting in the wings. You've been bankrolled for years now by your owner Dessie, you act like its somehow different? What happens when the brown envelopes run out? Why hasn't Henderson been playing for you recently?
We've been through all this, you've been corrected so many times, your just a pathetic liar Mick trying to pull the wool over peoples eyes. If you are going to take potshots at a club driving arround in a challenger tank you better come with something more than a childs catapult.

| There was a meeting of all the SL chiefs in Hull this week.
Apparently the licence criteria has been 'beefed up', guess its good that they should raise the bar to a few teams who may be resting on there laurels or not doing what they should have done.
Salary cap staying at the same level and the Magic Weekend will go ahead still next year, but is currently subject to a bidding war form a few places

How does that work then? How do you beef up the criteria two years in? It doesn't need beefing up - it just needs the RFL to do what they intended when they first released them. They have to grow some balls I
guess.

How do you mean 'beefed up'? More rigourously enforced or precisely defined is fair enough. If they start shifting the goalposts at this late stage, that would be wrong. Though not necessarily surprising.
