I think it's admirable that you want to raise some discussion on RL tactics - I live in a non Rugby League area and I use these boards to catch up with other fans and I do want to discuss more than just gossip and slagging off each other’s players/fans/grounds etc
But what you have listed in this topic is not tactics it is the basics of how to play RL - tactics are how you adapt your game when playing a particular opposition or during a particular period of the game... this has to be discussed in context
Anybody very new to RL may read your last 4/5 posts on this thread and learn something to look out for in a game so thanks for that

And the saddest thing is that a lot of RL fans will actually think that this sort of thing is what 'tactics' consists of, and is as complex as it gets.

some people like to dig a little deeper.
heres another tip
So, let me get this straight. The "playmaker" actually looks at what is infront of him before deciding what play he should make? Here's us thinking that they use some sort of play by numbers system and follow a premeditated script for the whole 80 mins....
Going back to your comments about driving the ball to the middle, you sure your right on this?
Its a shame the way this is going, cos this could be an interesting topic if it wasn't just you in the main trying (badly) to explain the simplest and most basic points of the game.
We got taught all sorts of systems and tactics by Walter Paul (Dad of Henry & Robbie), from the super basic upwards - unfortunately the majority of the side wasn't technically good enough to do owt with it.

| Dally - your original post had a link to the show on Fox. There is a video on the site, but I can't get it to play. Do you know if it is only visible to IP addresses? (the show looks really good)
Thanks

start with the basics before going onto the more complicated stuff.
judging by your responses this was the right approach

one other tip, when watching a game, dont just focus on the ball carrier, focus on 5 m. either side of the PTB. watch the decoy runners and which lines they run, do they open up holes, which option does the play maker take
by just watching the ball carrier you wont understand why a try or line break eventuated.

So why do they wont to get the ball to of the field you creating less space.? a team that likes to spread the ball will go the same way 2 or 3 times to open up the width of the whole field and find forwards to attack in the line .!!

no rubbish sherlock.... its called playing with your head up and what is in front of you, using flair not being a robot... very basics of the game taught to 12 year olds. Nothing tactical about this.
This subject is really making you look silly.
Just all basic stuff maybe named different etc its like me reeling of things like this - off, run around, hot ball... all very basic

Yeah thanks for that, can you explain why you think that in a goodball set teams should waste three tackles 'settling' the ball into a 'central' position rather than working to 20's or 80's and then putting on a more complex play?

| heres another tip for you lot :
teams in the nrl on last tackle have been deliberatly kicking the ball dead in goal, even on the full to nullify attacking fullbacks like hayne and slater returning the ball in broken play
