Should do it on a week by week basis.
I bet crowds go up this year, last year we were dragged down by Crusaders and Quins but I reckon the former will be way up.

i really get a kick out of seeing clubs growing their crowds, no matter who they are.

crowds last year werent bad. the average figures falling disguised the fact that the 2 new teams added had very poor crowds.

the 2 hull clubs really stand out for mine.

its a shame leeds doesnt have 2 SL clubs really.

The recession too.
We were making steady progress before the average fans wallet got hit.
We own a law firm and are not poor by any means, but when you have to outlay £17 a week for adults and then kids on top, you just can't justify paying it most of the time when there's bills to be paid and food to be bought. I reckon it's families that will have knocked crowds back a bit last year, we know loads who are in the same boat in Warrington especially as you can get two in the cinema for 7 quid on a wednesday or a couple of meals for a tenner in a nice pub.

The ticket offer this week to get nearly 12k against Harlequins shows the potential support is there, I bet its the same for every club

Leeds crowds seem to be dwindling slightly. Iirc last years average was the first time it was lower than the previous year, for quite some time. Considering they've won 3 straight league titles, add to that a couple of good signings you would think they've reached their peak - if they can't attract full houses now they never will.

The weekend derby against cas was down compared to recent years for the same game:

2008 17,619
2008 17,354
2009 16,931
2010 15,875

Supporters getting bored with winning, Leeds Utd doing relatively well once again?

with wire i doubt it was the recession and more the terrible form pre CC final win and tony smith turning things around.

a wire team that arent hopeless should get at least 10,000 in a brand new ground.

with a winning team 13,000 simply isnt big enough.

fill in those corners ASAP

I thought Wire had lodge an application to extended capacity to 18K. Was it another tier on one of the stands along the side?

Indeed, to be completed within 5 years and the fundings in place.
Me n Dally have had this one out though, I just dont see how those corners are gonna find you 5000 but you never know.
Wire, it was the recession and yes we were averaging 10k in previous seasons.
Poor form doesn't help but I personally know 14 people who didn't renew season tickets, including myself as justifying the cost just cant be done when there's no money coming in. I've got one this year as things have picked up and so has the dad but the bros still not bothered and many in the office haven't again and friends

Quote: nickcat0 "Some pretty good attendances there..........how do they compare with RU ?'"

The Guinness Premierships First weekly round saw these attendances:

Sale v. Leicester - 8,751
Saracens v. London Irish - 67, 684
London Wasps v. Harlequins - 67,684
Northampton v. Worcester - 12,073
Leeds v. Newcastle - 7,144
Gloucester v. Bath - 12, 815

Average Attendance - 29, 358 (distorted however due to the double header at Twickenham)

The Guinness Premiership last weekly round had all but one game postponed so there isn't any like-for-like figures but their last round, round twelve, saw these figures:

Sale v. Harlequins - 8,172
Gloucester v. Worcester - 16,500
Leeds v. Bath - 7,593
Northampton v. London Irish - 13,457
Saracens v. Leicester - 14,013
London Wasps v. Newcastle - 8,416

Average Attendance - 11,358

Read into that what you will.

Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good - sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league - Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate - the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever - Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go - Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know - FIOS:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_39110.jpg

Basically we want Leeds, Wigan and Hull, all above 17,000 and all of the rest at least over 10,000 with the slightly bigger clubs in better grounds getting around 15,000. That would be great.

I think it's possible, our marketing team claims we will be averaging 20,000 in 5 years time as long as we are competing for trophies.

Saints are moving to a new ground and should shoot up to around 13,000 ish.

Warrington are getting more succesful and figures will go up.

Cas and Wakey should move to new grounds in the coming years and could do just as well as warrington have done attendance wise.

Hull KR are a fast growing club and new developments at their ground along with some more success should see them past 10,000 easily.

Hudds are in a great stadium but just need to improve marketing of the cheap season tickets. Bradfords glory hunters will come back with better facilities and a top 4 team.

Catalans are doing great and should pass the 10,000 mark with their developed ground.

Leeds just need to keep a succesful team and hopefully at least stay where they are.

Marketing in RL is just generally poor, I know someone who lives down south who went to one Sale sharks game and they constantly get cheap ticket offers through the post. RU do everything they can to get bums on seats as they have admitted they are a small sport and need to drum up support themselves.

Our marketing team at Wigan have been awesome over the last few years and I think a few clubs just need to put some time and money into this area to get the rewards. What the Wigan marketing team have done is not rocket science but just common sense.

Clubs should be in the schools selling tickets and putting cheap offers on. I think every club should adopt the 'big one' initiative and also enoucourage a company to buy tickets for their workers.

Some of you will say that Wigan is the easiest club to market and you might be right, but, Warrington had around 30,000 fans turn up in the town centre when they won the challenge cup, Hudds had 15,000 at the challenge cup finals they have been in. I'm pretty sure if Cas or Wakey got to a final, similar numbers would appear, the fans are there, but they are not currently coming to the games and it will take a cheap ticket or a special event to get them there.

Clubs cannot rely on the sky money anymore! They need to get their act together by getting more paying customers so they can run themselves and the sky money can be spent on youth developent in the towns.

I have a feeling once all the grounds are sorted in around 10 years time hopefully, we may see a massive step forward but I don't think good facilities is the only answer.

The RFL really don't help either, the prices for the 4 nations were stupid! They should of been £10 behind the goals and £15 on the sideline and we should of been playing infront of packed stadiums, we didn't even fill the DW for an australia game!

The RFL need to start encouraging improvements alot more in this area. I think a double header for the challenge cup semi finals would be great, have it at eastlands with the hope of packing it out. Surely 4 clubs should sell 40,000 tickets for a semi final! Even our showpeice events did not sell-out and if this continues it will be really bad for the sport.

Personally as a fan, I would just love to see packed grounds every week for a great atmosphere!

On the good news front, the Wakefield game was the highest ever gate (since 2000) for their trip south, so hopefully the new Marketing team can keep it up.
