You still know nothing about this subject...
Your knowledge of French rugby league history would cover a very small pin's tip. The head is far too broad.

Ah the old "you're wrong because I say so". Has that ever impressed anyone older than 7?
Quote: Gijou "
Your comments re- Lyon are plain wrong.'"
No, they aren't. Lyon has no Elite club and never has been a Treiziste area.
Quote: Gijou "
Your comments re- Mille reflect your ignorance.'"
No, they don't. Mille may have been a treiziste stronghold (which I did not deny) but it isn't now but any definition of "stronghold". Their Elite club collapsed.

| Quote: Leyther_Matt "But is that necessarily the case? The Premier League copes ok with only one Yorkshire outpost side, one in the North East, a whole bunch within 30 miles of each other in the North West, three Midlands clubs and the rest in London?'"
Absolutely it's the case. Of course soccer does just fine with its' distribution of teams -- they're all over the country, not just in one relatively out of the way part of it plus a couple of outposts elsewhere. They have several in the south and Midlands too, where the national media can't ignore them they way can ignore RL since it's predominantly in the north.
Quote: Leyther_Matt "The RFL are currently running at a profit, and I don't think that profit can be credited to the current expansion policy in any way, shape or form.'"
True, they botched things totally when they were handed £87 million to create a big time, city-based Super League, but instead gave Sky the same old small-time one with London and Paris tacked on hoping they'd accept that. They screwed up again with the 2000 World Cup, and when one of the richest men in the country took on the flagship London club and they didn't know how to make that the strategic advantage it should have been. No wonder they scuttled back north tail-between-legs and held all Internationals in small stadiums in the heartlands.
Quote: Leyther_Matt "Travel 20 minutes of the 'heartlands' and it's like RL doesn't exist, so it's no point plonking a club four hours away in what is supposed to be our elite league when there is nowt in between.'"
That's exactly why the panel deciding on which sports events should be reseverd for broadcast TV said that RL "lacks national resonance" and therefore the Challenge Cup should be de-listed. Only serious expansion can change that.

You too are a moron. There seem to be plenty around here. Mods?
Lyon have won the Max Rousie Shield. (What is that I hear you ask...)
So have Mille.
Get a clue.

| So winning a (very) minor trophy suddenly makes an area "heartlands"?
I really don't see how this in any way at all contradicts the statement that neither side has an elite club.

| Gijou was a very abusive troll called Calixte who seems to have been banned from League Unlimited.
He made up lies all the time and called anyone who disagreed a rah rah troll.
He claims that Lyon and Mille's success from a very long time ago makes them heartland areas, maybe they once were but it doesn't make them one now. He gave me pages of abuse after every post on LU after I disagreed with his statement that Mille would get a SL side. They folded after half a season in the Elite and Lyon struggled along a few years before dropping down to Elite 2.
Let's just say he makes Dally look reasonable, he's about 10 times as bad, if not more.
I honestly never thought I'd say this but this site has gone completely down the drain, Dally has ruined it enough but if Calixte is on here too I guess totalrl is much more appealing

I looked up this shield, it is just the name of the trophy given to the winners of the French championship. Neither club have won the championship in over 50 years. He is obviously trying to be a dick. It's bleeding obvious that we all know that the French had a championship (and still do), playing silly buggers with the name of the trophy proves nothing.

| mille got 60,000 or so in the streets welcoming back the victorious French test RL team.
lyon and mille are 2 of the largest cities in france after paris and toulose
with their RL tradition having Les Cats in peripgnan, then 3 big city teams sure would give it critical mass
i would then go to paris after those
but if Stade francaise want to fund a paris team id be prepared to move paris up before lyon and mille, but not toulose

You are talking about the past. If you went back far enough then Liverpool and Manchester were cities very much dominated by rugby but today they are anything but.
Neither Lyon nor Mille are able to run an Elite club let alone a Super League one.
