| Quote: Beverley red "& a good idea it was. He seems to think that iternational League is worth saving which is a lot more than most of his country men do, but as I have posted before the disrespect shown by Australian clubs on the last propper tour just about killed the game off they put out weakened teams as the winfield cup was more important to them. The same attitude still prevails they would much sooner watch state of origin & have no interest or willingness to help promote the game. I am ariving at the sad conclusion that Australians are quiet happy to be world beaters at a sport that very few other people play & would be even happier if we in the northern hemisphere did not bother to play. There stars were afraid to come over incase they got bombed, there clubs complained that it was to much of a strain on there players & now they are complaining about not being able to wear there VB logo in France & have suggested vetoing the match there. With the vitriolic postings of league freak & dally messanger(ironic posting under the name of a true missionary of the game) who deride anything not Australian it makes me wonder what has happened to the jovial fair minded people who I always associated with Australia. They won't be happy untill they become as stupid & perocial as the Americans.
Having been side tracked my answer to the original post, The ashes are for cricket lets be big enough to have our own trophy like the Calcuta cup between England & Scotland in that other pastime & played for each time the side meet in whatever competition is being played at the time, we should have seperate trophys for each of the nations we play.'"
aussie RL fans dont care about international RL because england are s**t.
its your fault international RL is where it is, not us.

| aussie RL fans are spoiled for choice.
with saturation coverage of the game why bother with something thats proven time and again to be dominated by us.
its really funny everybody making a big deal about 2 upset wins as the basis for international RL.
the day we have 3 top sides who are regularly competitive at international level, level alone 5 then international RL will go through the roof.
till then well just have to make as much as possible when somebody upsets australia.
whoopee doo

.....its been the Ashes since 1928. Since I'm pretty sure neither of us was around then it's not our call what the trophy's name is.
It is, however played for between the Kangaroos and the Lions ...not England.

Er … yes it has been between Australia and England. As you say, it's been the Ashes since 1928. We've only had a GB international team since the 1948 Ashes series.

An 'England' team which included numerous Welshmen, at least 1 Scot and quite possibly Irishmen, although I can't think of one offhand.
But you knew that already

Throw in a few South Africans and it would be just like the 'England' team that competes for the cricket Ashes

As I understand it the term "Lions" was adopted for the 1920 tourists (pre-dating its use by RU).
As you say the Lions monicker being reserved for GB teams since 1948.
Are you suggesting England should take over the Lions brand...and therefore compete for the Ashes?

This proven time & time again to be dominated bit? it depends on your grasp of time, I will give you that the last two decades Australia has had the upper hand but we have been competing since the early 1900's for me it is only the last third of my life (to date) that Australia have been dominant, what goes round comes round. What you lot can't or won't see is that League is & always has been a minor sport in the UK, It has never been untill the last 15 years a viable carreer so we are at least twenty years behind. What is needed is the support of Australians not thier derision & that has been sadly missing at every attempt to get the international game back to somewhere near its former status. If we dont soccer & Union will allways seem a better option for young athletes as they pay more & have a very active international programe. Or are you all as I have said more interested in being the best of a very small insignificant sport played only in two states of a remote country.

Australia v Saints where fantastic, till a certain coach played a virtual A team against them, showing no respect at all to the Aussies the game and to the fans.

| How could you have an old fashioned tour against club sides when both seasons run at the same time?

| Don't think the "Ashes" should be played for in the one 4 Nations match, sounds a bit '6 Nations-ey' and I'm not a fan of that. I would like to see 3-match series in the calendar alternating between both countries each time, was disappointed it was going to be 4N in successive years but we wouldn't be competitive at the moment.
