Tbf i've always thought of Wembley as our national stadium and i think they should house the Internationals there but is it really 10 years since we last played and international there? That’s appalling!

| No.
1. Funding the thing is a bit of an issue.
2. We tend to play our internationals in a series of three or more. It would be pointless playing Australia or New Zealand for three weeks at the same venue.
3. The venues that we do use are currently ideal in terms of capacity, (presumably) cost and location. We've got Wembley, Old Trafford, Elland Road and the COM, all in England, all with capacities of 40k+ that we regularly use - what is wrong this those venues?
4. Modern sports venues (successful ones at least) are open seven days a week, 365 days a year - what over events do you propose to keep the venue profitable?
5. I'm not that keen on the idea of a "National Stadium" anyway, regardless of sport. The England football team should be for all to see, not just 80,000 cockneys. IMO, it was much better when the England football team played at venues across the country (even if they did tend to 'reside' at Old Trafford towards the end of their road-trip).

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

| We barely have an 'international game' so I can see no need to be building a 50k seater stadium to be used 3 times a year. Or 10 at the most.

Fair enough like i said it was a point i'd like to know other peoples opinions on and you've definatly summed the reasons up for not doing it.
I just see the success that say RU has with Twickers and it seems like we will never get to that level fi we keep moving for place to place.
Although the players aren't good enough I know, one day we will have a ‘golden generation’ which would be greatly enhanced if we played in a our own stadium.
Also the internationals would work as we wouldn’t be playing the same team every week if it was a tri nations tournament.

good point actually, maybe it's the lack of any serious worldly competition that hinders the building of a home to rugby league
Lets have a stadium for
Great Britain v Australia
Great Britain v New Zealand
Australia v New Zealand
England v Australia
England v New Zealand
pointless really when you actually sit down and think
Lets just ground share Twickers and call it the home of rugby

| Quote: thepriestman85 "Would it be feasible or could we afford as a sport to build say a 50k stadium for the sole use of RL?'"
No.
Quote: thepriestman85 "Almost the RL equivalent of Twickenham in RU, Wimbledon in Tennis, Lord in Cricket or Wembley for Football?'"
Wimbledon is not in anyway equivalent to any of those other sports. And Lords is just one of several county grounds in both day-to-day use and for hosting internationals.
Quote: thepriestman85 "We are currently gypsies using all different stadiums for different events and the cost of that can’t be that cheap either can it?'"
Renting a stadium for a one off event is a lot cheaper than the cost of building and maintaining one. It also gives us greater flexibility, and the ability to play different stadium owners against each other so they cannot afford to over price themselves.
Quote: thepriestman85 "I’d love to see us get a proper base where we can build some history and have memorable club and international matches.'"
We have managed to create quite a lot of history without any trouble for the past hundred plus years. A new stadium is going to make that any better.
Quote: thepriestman85 "I guess once we have somewhere like that it could be used for other events such as Athletics & Concerts maybe?'"
Could? Maybe? It would need to be! No sport can afford to have a stadium sitting empty for around 360 days per year. This is the business model of the Twckenham's and Wembley's you seem to want to emulate.
Quote: thepriestman85 "Although the initial costs would be great wouldn’t it benefit RL in the long term?'"
No, the only benefit would be for people who seem to think owing a stadium is something to boast about. It would bring no practical benefits at all.
Quote: thepriestman85 "Is it a pipe dream tho?'"
Thankfully, yes.
Quote: thepriestman85 "Thats the one thing i don't think should ever change. The Challenge Cup final should always be at Wembley, its tradition and should stay that way.'"
No. The cup final should be held in places like Halifax, Leeds, and Cardiff, but not Wembley.
Michael.

It is something to boast about if it works for the sport who own it. Can't see how it can't be?
I agree with the other points you made apart from this one and the CC final but imo world class stadiums like Twickenham are something to boast about since it was updated and the fact they fill it for all international games with tickets going for £85 each it must make them some revenue as well.
Also if your playing in a comp like the 6 nations it's a massive plus point if teams don't like the play their as it gives you and advantage doesn't it?

| Its never ever going to happen and the RFL would mess up trying anyway.
Look at the RFL now, they admit Celtic Crusaders into Superleague, then you think good a local team for the Millenium weekend. But no we will change it and get everyone playing at Murrayfield instead.
For a stadium of 75000 you are talking a minimum of £120 million anyway, the RFL could cough up about 2 million, so the rest is just a pipe dream.

We've certainly not played any since it reopened. And we used to get good crowds. Unfortunately, in the interim, two many people seem to have adopted the RU/BBC insult of "a small regional sport" as fact.
