And that would be brilliant

Not nearly as many vexed fans in Sydney as there will be happy fans in England.
I personally feel that Macca would make a great assistant working on one particular part of a game but not a full on head coach. His problem is being too ridged with his selections causing him to have teams who are too one dimensional.
When he does throw caution to the wind and actually takes his blinkers off his teams can do it. Saturday was a great example. He did what we have all been saying (I say all I probably mean the vast majority of English fans) and brought in Widdop which released Sinfield which in turn gave the team a freedom we have not seen with Chase in the team. Sadly he made the decision at least 3 games too late as a bit more familiarity between Sinny and Widdop may have been that extra 1% required to have won on Saturday.
Macca certainly has the talent, his players say as much, but he is not a head coach. You might actually find that he will thrive as an assistant in the NRL. He's too big to be just an assistant in the UK.

Why is he too big to be an assistant in the UK? Harris has been a head coach and has done an outstanding job at wigan as assistant. Jimmy Lowes to has stepped back to after being a head coach.
Steve Macnamara hasnt really achieved anything yet as a head coach, so a few more years as an assistant under a top coach may be the best thing for him.

I can't think of too many coaches in the UK who would be happy having (if its to be the case) a coach who was the national head coach working under them. Or for that matter I can't think of many who Macca would be happy to work under. Its not a Kear situation for example where he has been there done it and is willing to step down. Macca is only 40 and still has (i would imagine) goals to achieve in the coaching game. Harris was head coach of Crusaders and Wales not one of the top sides either domestically or nationally. Lowes was head coach of Warrington again not England.
You can argue if Macca was up for the England job, but the reality is that is one of the big jobs in English RL if not the biggest. To be an assistant under one of his peers would be a major come down. IMHO and thats what its all about I guess.

So being appointed by the games govening body to be head coach of your nation is achieving nothing is it?
It just amazes me that we so undervalue our players & coaches no wonder Shaun Edwards , Mike Ford & Andy Farrel are happy in Union at least they dont have to put up with the drivell from so called supporters. Good luck to him he has earned all he gets for the years of dedication he has put in to learning his trade in our game.

andy farrell is being blamed widely for rugby union being boring not sure how its his fault as he has only been in union for 8 or so years. Apparently englands structure is andy farrell fault.

Considering all the cr@p we had to read about Trent 'Who?' Robinson last year, I am inclined not to listen to Roosters fans and the Sydney media.

| This is without doubt Steve or his agent attempting to force the issue by generating 'fake' interest. The Roosters have one of the most highly though of coaching staffs in the NRL after going from wooden spoon to Minor and Major Premierships in one year.

Aussie fans are as clueless as a lot of uk fans difference is they are completely ignorant to anything outside the NRL.

I saw Guscott moaning like hell about Rugby League coaches and their defensive attitude to the game. I read about it and recalled all the days in the 80s and 90s that I wasted trying to get excited about England RU. The free flowing rugby that was evident at the time. The wingers being constantly put in at the corner finishing a another majestic move. And I wondered where it all went wrong.

tell me about it. He does the coverage for OSN when the internationals are on, and when owen farrell got a punch of britts apparently it was farrell fault and he said he needed to grow up because he just laughed after being punched. Im not quite sure of the history of the bloke and why he is anti league but he is as bad if not worse than stuart barnes about rugby league players.

| Guscott chickened out of playing for Bath v Wigan in the two cross code challenge matches in 1995. Not sure if he had an anti RL chip on his shoulder before that but he's never liked it that it got him christened Pussycat by RL fans. He didn't like the fact Wigan put 100 points on Bath RU in the match at Maine Road.
Probably also didn't like the fact his England RU career ended just as Phil Larder was enticed in to coach defence and then went on to help Engand RU win the RU WC, without Guscott. Anyway, just ignore Guscott and leave him to stew in his own juice.

Agreed.
Steve McNamara wouldn't even get a job coaching Parramatta let alone the current premiers.
