Cas is just a small town in the suburbs of the City of Wakefield, they have token planning permission pending but no money to build a stadium, the only juniors they have are cast off from Wakefields Academy (Westerman, Owen, Milner etc..), they're not a traditional club having only been around for a few decades as compared with the mighty Trinity who've been around for almost a century and a half.

It was announced a few months ago, last autumn, that the clubs who make up SLE had voted to keep the comp at 14, knowing that that would include one current Championship club.

I doubt we'll ever know the answer, but it would still be imteresting to know how Cas, Wakey, Salford and other Cat C licence clubs voted ...

For better or worse, anything other than Widnes in, Wakefield out would currently be a surprise. Halifax coming up [uas well[/u is the only variation on this theme that I can imagine. We find out in a month, don't we - about the promoted club(s) at least? If they announce 2 the boards will go in to meltdown!

Not quite: we find out in a month or so about the club which gets the one guaranteed licence for a championship club. The other applicants (the current 14 SL clubs and the other championship clubs which have submitted applications) will then find out who's got the 13 remaining places in June.

You are aware that Toulouse a) haven't applied and b) don't qualify to apply?

Unless something changes with the London Franchise, I'd have to say Quins out, have three years to re build somewhere else (no idea where to) and then another crack at Super League.

It's easy to say Widnes in but I'm not convinced they will add anything to the competition, obviously they have a nice ground, but its just a little bit uninspired to me.

However it seems quite likely that Wakey will get the chop, with a straight swap for Widnes.

Wrong. No the don't qualify. They are a championship club and need to meet exactly the same qualifying criteria as other championship clubs (win the NRC or appear in GF) to apply. As was clearly and explicity stated by the RFL in 2009.

But let's not let facts get in the way of a good conspiracy theory.



Because I can read. The RFL have named the Championship clubs who have qualified to submit applications. And they have named the Championlship clubs who have actually submitted applications. Toulouse appear on neither list.
