| Brough is having a brilliant tournament. Would have taken England up 2 levels.

I must have missed the part where i said they were unbeatable. Never did. But england won't beat them.

| Warriors and Kiwis love to play that style, but if you put defensive pressure on them they make mistakes and are very beatable.

| unbelievable about them cutting funding, what happened to the guff about spreading the cash around grass roots? shouldn't they be trying to build and spread the game after this tournament.

| Scotland should be really proud of that effort. Terrible news about the funding, is that the RFLs lack of sponsorship starting to bite?

| Call me a pessimist, but I can't help but think Scotland RL have known this was coming since the SE cuts but decided to announce it now so as to cause maximum uproar etc. Good tactic if so.

The fact that Danny Brough was not selected to play for England way back when the squad was first announced suggests that the England coach may have a slight problem of professional judgement.

Whilst I don't disagree about the timing of the release, I fail to see what any "uproar" will achieve. There are 3 more QF's, 2 Semi's and the final to come....I think all the fireworks (if there are to be any) regarding the RFL, Funding the game, restructuring etc etc.... will start to be lit about December 3rd.
Thought Scotland punched well above their weight and are to be applauded......but as I have said in another thread, the Kiwis haven't really had to play past half time yet.....the Kiwis do look awesome!

Agreed. While it is disappointing from an England viewpoint that he is not turning out for England it is certainly better for both Scotland and the tournament (in respect of the impression given of this World cup to the viewing public and the media) that he was not picked for England and instead is playing for the Scots. Better that such a player can elevate one of the minnows to win their group and make the last 8 than he make the SF/Final with a nation that was expected to get that far anyway. His turning out for Scotland (along with others) and helping them to do what they have may help catch the interest of the next lot of David Scott's.

| If big forward Keith Galloway and Scotland born winger James McManus had been playing, Scotland would not have won, but they may have scored a couple more tries and kept the score a little more respectable.
However if that had happened maybe the Kiwis would have stepped up a level in the second half.

| Not getting the Brough love in, he played well for 5 minutes where he kicked a 40/20 and produced a nice pass for the try, but he bombed a try by making the wrong decision and failed to find touch with a penalty kick. He's been up and down in all his games in this WC, certainly hasn't been Scotland's stand out player that was Matty Russell

| I haven't seen enough of Scotland's other games to say whether he's had a good tournament or not, but he was very poor tonight bar 5 minutes.

| As for the funding, I remember an article from the Welsh a while ago announcing this cut in funding from the RFL so I can't see why they'd know it about but the Scots wouldn't. IIRC it was when the Welsh announced the new Welsh Academy and was along the lines of that there were to be separate governing bodies for home nations instead of all being the RFL's responsibility.
Does anyone know how much the RFL paid to the nations?

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

| Thought the Scots did well, Brough kept trying to set up a score rather than damage limitation , the Kiwi's should retain the WC, if they had Brough or Marshall it would be a foregone conclusion

Are you joking?
The Kiwis have Shaun Johnson and Kieran Foran. Brough is not as good as either of them, and Benji Marshall has been out of form for two years (which is why Wests Tigers let him go to rugby union)!
