| Quote Leyther_Matt="Leyther_Matt"That's why I say major (I actually meant to type majority

Wasn't there some hoo-ha previously from the fans about it being a one man band etc before Quinn became involved though?'"
There is always hoo-ha from fans at most clubs. Prior to Bill Quinns arrival the Sean Whitehead was also a director with CH. CH has many knockers, but he is the one constant through the 12 years since the club reformed after the demise of the Bears.
It is not ideal to just have one man making all the decisions, but the others who think they can do the job must realise that to able to do it, they must front up with some serious cash.

| Quote RoughyedWatcher="RoughyedWatcher"Chris Hamilton took over the club at the demise of the Bears at the back end of 1997, with three others.'"
He didn't take over anything. They formed a brand new company and a brand new club. When will people realise this club isn't and never will be the same as the previous club.
Quote RoughyedWatcher="RoughyedWatcher"Gradually over the years the other three dropped out one at a time. Bill Quinn came in as a big money backer three years ago, with Chris still owning 25% of the club. So the short answer to your question is has not stopped being a share holder, just did not have full control.'"
Although happy to see that the club will continue I really do have grave concerns for the future. Who is going to bail out the club next time? The really need to get a decent accountant

You know, I think that's exactly what he wants. He's now in control and it's up to him to deliver. He can do things his way and there is nothing now to stop him or reign him in.
It's going to end in tears unfortunately.

He used to own Widnes. Widnes went into financial meltdown. Oldham are a rugby league club with serious financial problems.

Quote roughyedspud="roughyedspud"whats that got to do with oldham?'"
There were some posts where wealthy backers were being castigated. Vaughn was given as an example of wealthy backer = bad.
So, long after the thread had 'ended' there was a desperate need to make the point again
For the sake of balance - whereby weathy people and their businesses do good - take a look here:
www.bramleybuffs.com/storm/206-b ... -with-ppd-
The Chair says the very existence of the club was under threat until this local businessman saved them. 3 cheers for some wealthy people!
I hope that if a local businessman/woman in Oldham, like Terry Flanagan, wanted to put finance into the club the fans would not be so far up themseves about 'sugar daddies'.

| Quote Starbug="Starbug"And yet you me and everybody knows that the type of investment that has helped Bramley is totally different to the type of investment that a ' sugar daddy provides [ one where they have total control of the club '"
Does everybody know that? Are you speaking on 'everybody's behalf'? How thrilling.
I will not be so arrogant to claim I speak on everybody's behalf. I do know that wealthy backers can support favoured clubs through private sources and / or their corporate interests. That some sponsors may exert significant influence on an organisation while some benefactors do not want such an influence. Also that many wealthy backers / supporters of clubs do not have or expect 'total control'. It is a little bit more complex than some would pretend.
I am delighted that Bramley's 'ownership experiment' has been handed a lifeline by a private business concern and its profits.

| In my view big money backers, do not go into these ventures to provide money without clauses. most invest money into the clubs as directors loans and do expect a return if the club becomes more successful. I suspect that this is what happened at oldham and also suspect that the vast majority of outstanding debts at Oldham will now be owed to Bill Quinn the recently departed "sugar daddy".
