| Quote: Him "Except you, along with Willzay, obviously know nothing about the situation at York. You're just using it as another excuse to have a pop at the RFL about expansion and the "letting heartland clubs die" rubbish.
Even in the club statement announcing their closure, York praises the RFL for their help and assistance.
The RFL has helped York City Knights for years and whilst some blame can be thrown at City of York Council, the majority of the blame goes to the incompetent, inadequate and even ridiculous way in which York City Knights were run by their owner for years. This has been coming for a long time, their issues with the new stadium merely highlighted their problems and only hastened, rather than caused, their end.
Even now, the owner is still trying to "make a point" in his personal feud with the Council, York City and anyone else he's p!ssed off along the way by closing the club now and not at the end of the season.'"
You're utterly deluded.
You and your cronies have been telling us how to run the game since SL began - in that time we have achieved virtually nothing despite having an income stream people like David Oxley could only dream about.
You've had your chance, you get proved wrong on a weekly basis but you NEVER admit you are wrong. May I suggest you zip it and let people who really know and care about the game get on with it and sort out this mess before it dies on it's feet.
You do realise that if Sky ever lose interest in our sport the game is virtually over and those clubs with the least chance of surviving are in fact your beloved flagship clubs.

| Quote: bramleyrhino "Except that it really doesn't make a lot of sense at all. This isn't about being pro/anti expansion or anything like that, it's about having a competition with clubs that are commercially viable. I don't care whether the sport is played in Wakefield or Winnipeg, as long as it can be entertaining, can thrive and can grow.
The situation at York stems from a range of issues, but particularly disputes with the local council, the local football club and financial challenges - all issues that the current owner has decided he doesn't want anything to do with any more. If the owner of a club decides to walk away in those circumstances, I fail to see how this could possibly be interpreted as "the RFL letting clubs die".
I also don't think it's really the RFLs place to start getting heavily involved in how clubs, privately-owned commercial interests at the end of the day, are run. The RFL's remit is to provide a sporting structure in which these clubs can operate. Beyond that, it's down the the clubs. It's certainly not, in my view, the RFL's place to act as some sort of bail-out fund.'"
And here is another on right on cue, the we know better than anyone else brigade - well you don't.

We have a situation where an egomaniac owner has decided to fold a club mid-season to send a message to a local council that he has had running battles with for years (reportedly almost all of his own making). This is the same crackpot who has issued stadium bans to half of his directors and called his own fans 'window lickers' last year. And yet you and a bunch of other Wakefield fans are here ranting and raving about the RFL for some unspecified reason. It would be funny if it wasn't sad.

Come on then genius, what's the answer to a rather questionable club owner going AWOL? How does this amount to "the RFL letting the club die"? You clearly know the answer so please enlighten us.
Sorry, but I'm with headhunter on this. If you're not going to rationally refute the points made and instead just resort to your chippy, defensive type, then you're probably not cut out for such grown-up debate.

Up until fairly recently I was a York season ticket holder.

| What happened when York folded? Ryedale York came into fruition at the non York council ground at Huntington in Ryedale. Since then it seems that RANK BAD MANAGEMENT has seen the demise of a relatively new club, see also, Scarborough, Mansfield, Lancashirespringfieldchorleytrafford Boroughlynx. Add to that the lazerus clubs of Keighley, New Hunslet/Hunslet, the nomads for 20 + years Swinton (will they EVER get home) and the other clubs who have been through the financial mill including Wigan & Saints.
Anyone deluded to think this game is well run, is not fully aware of the whole picture. There are little pockets of success but overall the game is tied up in a leash and stuggles with it which in turn is making it tighter and reducing the life expectancy.
There is a need for a whole new set up for the game with NO club representation involved with the running of the game at all. Clubs to be invited to apply to play in the competitions with minimum standards particularly in the areas of player development and financial acumen.
Won't happen here though, too many with their head in the sand, or wearing blinkers with their fingers in their ears singing la, la, la, whilst thinking my club, my club my club until there is only their and perhaps a few others left.
A slow agonising death to be sure, but will it change? Doubt it, even with the hopefully successful intergration of Toronto.
It's 2016 not 1895 but somehow in some ways you wouldn't think that things have changed for the better.

Yet everytime there's a thread like this up you pop pontificating. You blindly defended everything about Celtic Crusaders also didn't you? That worked a treat didn't it? but of course, off you blindly pop with your 'crusade' ...

| I'm really not following why some Wakefield fans on here are getting so wound up. I see nothing but concern for the current plight of York but certain Wakefield followers are getting upset at those showing concern. Is there rivalry between York and Wakefield which I never knew existed? Or are they annoyed at the RFLs perceived lack of support when Wakefield have been through some tough times?
I'd genuinely like to know - and no need to turn this into a Wakefield vs Castleford thread, this is about York. For the record I live just outside York and have attended more York games this season due to Castleford rarely playing on a Sunday.

I guess from my point of view having seen my club nearly go under and through one administration without any help from the RFL or the local council that I don't like to see the same thing happen to other clubs, especially those in the lower leagues where people above wouldn't give a damn.

Well, having browsed the reaction on social media this afternoon, I for one am glad that a few voices of sanity remain. I am simply staggered by how many people are trying to somehow link this, however tenuously, to Toulouse and Toronto. It is not even remotely connected to them in any way. The RFL are doing everything they can to find a way to keep York afloat, far more than most sporting governing bodies would do - but some people will never be happy. I just despair.
