Its the Hull KA fans I feel sorry for. Imagine the embarassment they now have to suffer for the way they acted when the signing was announced. How great they had now become, how their club could attract the calibre of player of Mason. Now hes realised what a mistake it was and confirmed what everyone else knew at the time.
I hope Hull KA at least refund anyone who bought a shirt with his name on it.

He was perfectly entitled to.
The RFL's Operational Rules prevent registered players approaching other RL clubs (or clubs approaching registered players). There's nothing to stop a player speaking to a RU club. |

| The RFL's Operational Rules state
Quote: Contacted Club "A Contract Player or a Conditional Contract Player or anyone acting on his behalf shall
not be entitled to approach another Club (the "Contacted Club"icon_wink.gif until 1st September
prior to the expiry of his current contract but the Contacted Club shall not respond in
any way whether directly or indirectly (which shall include statements made to the
media) without first receiving the consent of such Player's Club and such consent shall
not be unreasonably withheld or delayed. Where such consent is withheld the Club
wishing to make the approach may appeal to the RFL who shall be the final arbitrator.
Both clubs shall have the opportunity to make submissions to the RFL in the timescale
set by the RFL. From 1st September prior to the expiry of his current contract a Player
shall be entitled to enter into a contract with a Club subject to the compensation rules
set out in these Operational Rules.'"
"Club" is defined as
Quote: Contacted Club "any Member which is a Rugby League Club and any other Rugby League
Football club or other body which may be invited to join the RFL from time to time in
accordance with these Bye Laws'"
There is no way that Rovers can prevent him from contacting a potential new employer.
I guess we'll see if they sue him. |
