Quote: Marsdengiant "Try not to put words in my mouth. i never said anything like your first para.

I agree that many oveseas players may hold back youngsters. Do you have the integrity to condemn your own club for going this. And for doing it with a reserve grader. on wigan 'cast offs' I see Gleeson is going well for you. I am delighted he is getting 1st team rugby.

I have not 'slagged' off wakey in this thread. I have said that taking on a reserve grade NRL guy is poor. Hardly slagging off - not where i come from.'"

Can you tell me which young kid Wakefield are holding back with this decision because from where I'm standing we have all hands on deck at the moment including every available young player we could possibly consider.

Can you tell me which SL team has dipped into the National Leagues for players as much as Wakefield have over the past three years.

it may not be a player in the reserve grade who is being held back, it could be a player you never bothered finding because it wasnt a priority

after all, someone in the NRL can go out and find and train these players for you, and you can pick up the ones not quite good enough

Quote: SmokeyTA "thats fine, but why not release/sell one of the other 10 you have to balance the books as it were?'"

And if the player doesnt want releasing from a binding contract and doesnt want to be sold.
But in your world - just release him and pay him the balance of his contract no doubt.

The bottom line is that a large proportion of your squad is overseas. If you put your energy and money into 4 less overseas players you would have space for at least 4 more UK players. You have known since the middle of last year that you will not be relegated this year so why knee jerk? Develop talent not sign samoan youngsters.

why not? send him on loan? put him on the transfer list?

or make it publicly known he wont be playing for the first team.

it easy to make excuses as why it is easier to bring in a player like Winterstein than to develop your own, the reason being is it is unarguably easier to do so, thats why wakefield are doing it

6 is still much less than 11,

Moa would have been their 7th, still less than 11 but try not to tweak the facts to strengthen your argument.

and Wakefield dont need you to make excuses and patronise them, they are an SL club like the others, and can have the same high standards demanded of them,'"

Who's making excuses, I'm just stating the facts which you choose to ignore for some reason.
Standards demanded by who? Certainly not you, sorry to burst your bubble fella but you won't even register on Wakefields radar.

Quote: SmokeyTA "where is the evidence wakefield are 'getting there'? where is the evidence that Wakefields youth development programme is now good enough, and will allow wakefield to sustain themselves and make a real contribution to the league?'"

The eveidence is down at Belle Vue every day, why not go down and see it for yourself it may put your mind at rest. While you're there why not introduce yourself and explain your concerns about this decision to sign FW.

Who said tat Wakefields youth development was good enough? It's not but neither is Leeds (Ask Barry McDermott)! Whats important is that each club continues to improve its youth development programe.

Quote: SmokeyTA "most clubs? how many other clubs are looking at bringing over their 11th overseas player for the season?'"

You are obviously struggling to understand that last paragraph so here it is again and I've spaced it out for you to give you a chance to comprehend what it ACTUALY says rather than the distorted meaning you heard in your head.

most.....clubs.....will.....need.....to.....bolster.....their.....team/squad.....with.....overseas.....signings.....of.....varied.....experience.....and....quality.....all.....subject.....to.....the.....circumstances.....prevailing.....at.....the.....time.

I've tried to help you and your narrow band of understanding, whether you're capable of learning will obviously be reflected in your next few posts.

I have a simply question really. It's very easy to label a player as a reserve grader, but how does a young player, change from a reserve grade player to a first team without a club taking a chance on them? Because at some point every single player has played reserve grade have they not?

Does that not mean every player could be labelled as reserve grade? Or is this label being used to try and help a particular members arguement?

this is a fairly simple concept to understand, and i honestly cant think of a way to dumb it down any more, so ill just repeat it to you, in hope you will read it, and as for some reason you think putting ..... inbetween words makes them easier to read, ill do that for you aswell

you are correct, a reserve grader needs someone to take a shot on them so they can move from reserve grade to first grade,

so why not give that opportunity to a british player

you are making excuses, oh no bigger boys are better than us, we are ty little wakefield we cant do as well as the bigger boys, blah blah blah, you are in SL, you should make the same contribution as everyone else, if not expect to get criticised for it

why isnt the evidence making it on to the pitch in wakefield colours every week then?

and you're right, leeds youth development isnt perfect, and there huge potential for improvement, but its about 10 times better than most in the league, so right now, its fine

Quote: SmokeyTA "you may not be, but clearly your not making enough of an effor to find them'"

I think you'll find that we are making big steps in this area but you cannot bring 15 and 16 year olds in to play Super League as you'll destroy them.

In the past we have relied very heavily on imports rather than developing players for well documented reasons. Over the last few years that policy has improved and we are now developing more players at youth level but they need to be given some time to reach maturity before being shoved into playing SL.

You can ask for proof but until they are old enough who can say whether they will work out or not.
In the same way you can't prove at the moment that the next crop of Leeds youngsters will all make SL players (until they are playing at that level how can you judge?).
