| I reckon we let him down not voting enough for him.
He is a legend of the game there is no doubt.
MacBull you would do well to go look at your record books for your own club before derailing a thread about Neil Fox. He did a pretty important job at Bradford, as did his brother.
But just to put it into perspective, Neil scored 6,220 points in his 24 year career.
Kevin Sinfield (who is a great player with a great career) scored 3967 in 18 years. He'd have to keep playing for another 10 years at the same rate to reach Neil's record.
And tries were 3 points back then.
He deserves the road.

It is "Fifita" not "Fafita"
If you don't know the difference between "there", "their" and "they're" I might get annoyed.

| I suspect the reason Fox is not on the statue is clear from the attendances at Wigan vs attendances at Wakefield. It was put to a popular vote (stupid idea IMHO) so the most popular clubs vote for their own rather than trying to make an impartial, objective opinion. Also added to the fact that Sky keep wetting themselves referring to "the great Billy Boston" every time they are at a Wigan home game makes his name familiar to the newer generations who never saw him play. Fox and others don't get the same adoration from the media hence their achievements are not as widely acknowledged.
I think that Fox's enviable record which will NEVER be broken is something that should be acknowledged on the statue dedicated to greats of rugby league.

It was an online vote 6 years ago.
While I can acknowledge the rise of the Silver Surfers the plain facts are that the web is far better utilised by a younger audience and you'll always get a greater number of people able to recall something that happened 20 years ago over events from 30 years further back.
It was always going to be weighted to favour the likes of Offiah and Hanley rather than the Fox's or Clive Sullivan, for example. It's the same reason that we at Saints have statue of Keiron Cunningham rather than one of Vollenhoven or Alf Ellaby to name just two.
The fact that Murphy, Ashton and Boston who all played in the same era as Neil Fix from the late 50s to the early 70s were picked ahead of him is something of a head scratcher though

Possibly because I don't live in Wakefield or Wigan. I wouldn't touch the poison Mail with a ten foot pole. And I don't take the Telegraph.
What I don't understand is where the candidates came from. Was there a set list, or could you just vote for whoever you liked? Neil Fox is probably the greatest player to play the game in my lifetime. Arguably the greatest player of either code this country has produced since the war. And yet he was omitted for a Johnnie come lately like Offiah.

The BBC also ran features on each of the nominees in the run up to the vote, here is the Gus Risman one as an example:

What's my age or nostalgia got to do with it? Boston, Ashton and Murphy were all contemporaries of Neil's, they're on he isn't. I'd have put Ellery in front of Offiah, so I'm not that nostalgic. I'd have said he is the second greatest player I've ever seen. Come to that where's Jonathan Davies? He scored a remarkable try at Wembley in 1994.
As someone else has pointed out, there are three ex Wigan players there, and Wigan are one of the best supported teams. So as usual in RL it's not how good you are but who you play for that really counts. BTW I don't support Wakey. I think I'm pretty objective in selecting the great players I've seen. If I wasn't Deryck Fox would be up there in my nominations!

| It's quite a sad, pathetically bitter obsession he's got DA. I can only assume he's still at school, but if not that's all the more embarrassing.

You forgot something - throughout most of his career it was only 3 points for a try! That really puts it into perspective when compared to Sinfield and others.
No one will beat what he did, they may be better players in some respects but no one will get those figures imo.
Him not being on is criminal but public vote have a habit of producing results like we got. It’s pure demographics and the passage of time.
That said the Murphy one baffles me - dirty player and not an especially gracefull man off the field either.

How does Gus Risman fit into this theory? He played for clubs currently less well-supported than Wakey.
