I think this is just the usual bunch trying to detract from a convincing Wire win....Plenty of effort from Leeds, but all the class came from the winners.'"
the Wires pack was outstanding yet again - can't see how Hodgson got MOM ! I reckon Waterhouse, Carvell or Westwood should have got it and what did Riley do wrong ?

| Quote: Cronus "The Briers 'knock-on' wasn't a knock-on at all. The first bounce landed behind the point at which he touched it. Doesn't matter where it bounces after that. The BBC even demonstrated it in slow-mo with lines on the pitch after the game.
The no try was the correct decision for me as well. Knock-on from KL.
Thought the officials were good today.'"
Indeed they were, got pretty much everything spot on.
As said, the Briers incident the ball did NOT go forwards, it went sideways. The fact it bounced forwards after it landed is totally irrelevant.
I can't believe any fair minded person would disagree that Leuluai knocked on, he was doing his best to grab hold of the ball and he very clearly knocked on - once you noticed it. It wasn't an obvious spot, and respect to the VR for spotting it and getting a key decision correct.

| I'd agree with a lot of what has been said on here, however I would rather credit Warrington for their superb defence which stifled the little creative spark we had today. Well done Wire, we were beaten by a better team.

| Quote: RLBandit "Correct. However, its actually symptomatic of the dreadful standard of professionalism which starts right at the top of the RFL. We've no hope of getting high calibre refs ( for example ) with the dreadful occupants of Red Hall. The game clings on in spite of them, not because of them. What's desperately sad is the defeatism from a lot of fans about League's prospects in general. More people than any time in my lifetime seem resigned to the fact that our game is fundamentally limited in its ability to thrive and grow. That's, frankly, a load of tosh. We are limited by the incredibly limited talents of our leadership. With good people, the game can thrive. Until, at least as a start, Wood et al resign or are voted out, don't expect progress in refs, or anything else important. Sadly, the chances of them resigning from their cushy little numbers are next to zero.'"
What an absolute load of tripe.

The man is quite clearly ginger.

| Quote: Cassandra "What happened to all the linesmen from the league games? Seems to me when it comes to TV or cup finals, the poor touch judges get thrown into touch. Why can't they have a chance of a medal also?'"
Please, we have touch judges in our game, we don't have linesmen, never have and never will.
But your argument I have always agreed with. Since the advent of full-time officials we see ever increasing use of those officials in whatever capacity they can be utilised, be that as touch judges or video refs. I can only assume that it's down to saving a few bob, working on the priciple of "well we're paying them anyway, so we might as well use them".
Finals were always the place to appoint senior touch judges, not to recycle existing referees. The two jobs are completely different, albeit complementary.
I'd like to see a referee and two particular touch judges appointed, as a team, to all fixtures. That way they can build something of a rapport and any inconsistencies should be easier to highlight and to deal with.

I was once asked by a friend of mine who was a match commisioner at the time, to accompany him into the referee's changeing room. Just as we opened the door, one of the touch judges was heard to ask the ref. what do you want us to watch out for today ? The ref. abruptley replied, I'm in charge you do nowt.

It really wasn't.

| Leeds fans really cannot complain about the Briers 'knock on'. Remember the semi-final...

Lets be fair here. There appear to be next to no complaints from Leeds fans about the outcome of the match. I am not a Leeds lover but full marks to them for accepting that, today, they were outplayed by a better team.

I hope the MC reported him then.
I had a similar experience running the line in a televised game. The ref told us "right, the game's on telly, so all I want you to do is mark touch and flag goals". I basically replied "bollox, you can get someone from the crowd to do that" and started to get dressed again. Lindop came into the dressing room and asked what was going on, so I told him to ask the ref. The other touchie and I were asked to wait outside and when we were called back in, we received completely different instructions. Fred pulled me to one side after that game and asked if I really would have walked out. When I said yes, he told me I was a 2@ but he'd probably have done the same thing in the circumstances.
So I know from experience that referee instructions determine the input of touchies but with the technology used today, there's absolutely no excuse for any referee going on an ego trip.

At the moment the jokers on the field officiating are just there because they have put their hand up for it, the touch judges particularly and the video refs are always looking for ways they can give the opposite decision to the obvious one.'"
Yes it really is that simple.
Especially when clueless-numpty speccies do more to prevent anyone becoming a referee than anything.

| i ran the line in the premier league reserves and the conference ,football obviously, and the referees talk is always in depth and we really try to help each other out.
i helped a ref last monday by pointing out a bad tackle and yellow card he missed. he thanked me after.
today i was amazed silverwood missed the briers foul on hall. he was looking straight at it. the TJ called him back 80m to,rightfully, give a penalty.
i wondered at the time if silverwood would thank or bollock him at half time
