| I notice Wire are running round with Asda on their shirt. I don't know the amount involved, but its a nice big company to be involved with rugby league.
Saints are sponsored by Typhoo. Not a glamorous brand, but one well known who do a lo. Of TV advertising. There's obviously decent companies willing to get involved in SL.

The Asda logo on the shirts was a one off for Ben Westwood's testimonial.

| Gutterfax has offered himself to the RFL and London(on many occasions)-he gave up in the end and went to annoy the NZ Warriors
Ask him to post his infamous 20 point plan to save London-Its principally based around posters in Twickers trains station and daffodils on the roundabout outside the ground. Other than those two significant offerings there are a number of less impressive options.

Incorrect....I applied for the Marketing position, was interviewed by the RFL at the bequest of Ian Lenegan and was offered a position on a basic salary that wasn't acceptable tome at the time....I have also attended meetings with the RFL at the stoop and put in place a number of deals that were ignored......even though the RFL wanted the club to try them.
Quote: wire quin "he gave up in the end and went to annoy the NZ Warriors'"
The Warriors are in Auckland.........I annoy the NZRL & NZRU (and invoice them both quarterly for my troubles)

I still stand by everything in that post....in the 41 months since I posted it, the club has managed to shed 20% of their fans, change their name and try to move to Kent....outstanding work

2nd Feb, England v Scotland at Twickenham will attract 82,000...with a TV audience of over 5 million.....That's why 02 pay 5 million a year to be on a shirt that runs out only 10 times a year!
Also, Sonsorship has never been toomuch about business sense.......ask Allianz who arepaying one of the worst supported teams in the Aviva 1.5 million a year over 5 years to have a name on a shirt and a stadium.
Nonsense, it's the third highest viewed sport on sky, gets regular Covg in all the national papers and extensive Covg in local papers that cover a population of 5 million+, it has big online following and is shown in 20 odd countries. For 1mill I would suggest that is a massive amount of advertising for not a lot of money for 12 months!

where are the sponsors then JB? If it's such a massive competition, surely they'd be lining up around the corner.....but they aren't because it isn't.
SL is not shown Live here in NZ, one of only 4 countries that have a fully professional RL team...it is shown delayed on the Maori channel with Maori commentary
The third most viewd sport on SKY is in reality, 150,000 viewers twice a week on PAY TV...the other lot will average 4.5 million a game for all 15 games on FTA TV. Newspaper coverage is dire.....the broadsheets hardly ever give anything more than a quarter of a page, the red tops maybe half a page and the Local papers are hardly a selling point for a big name sponsor.
Saracens get 1.5 million a year...they average about 7k fans but bolster that with their Wembley adventure every year.....that's 300k MORE than Engage used to pay for the entire SL.......the RFU get 4 times the engage deal a year for just their shirt sponsor.
RL is TGG...but sometimes its fans need to get a shot of perspective

| For the sport to grow and sponsors to climb on board the sport needs international success, we haven't been World Cup winners for 40 years + and haven't won a tri nations since its formation.
I think back to the early 90's when the sport had epic Ashes battles (didn't Mal Meninga win overseas sports personality one year)? and were within a whisker of a World Cup win at a full Wembley, the R.L profile was bigger then that it is now.
R.U grew faster around their World Cup win didn't it?, We need to win the big one in the autumn...bet we wouldn't be struggling for sponsors then!

The premier competition in this country is the soccer Premier League. As that comp is hardly "about" more than 5 or 6 clubs - in fact, actually less - clearly the number of clubs a comp is "about" cannot be the significant factor you imply. Indeed the Premier League, where such great riches are concentrated, is a 3-4 horse race from the off; then there is a block of second rate clubs, that can't hope to compete with the elite, but scrabble for European spots. Maybe 4 or so.
The rest are just also rans.
