Smith was at fault for his positioning but Briscoe playing gave the Aussies a target to build their game plan around.

Australia's game plan was to kick behind Briscoe and exploit his lack of pace and mobility to build pressure because he lacks the pace to get to the ball quick enough to make effective kick returns thus enabling Australia to smother England so they couldn't make any decent exit sets.

" Time is but a flowing stream". Pedro. Higherfold Cockey Pond. 1973. You can shout for silence, but boots worn all day will always hum.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_28343.gif

You cant put all the blame on Smiths and Briscoes defending, the whole team were lazy in attack and defence. No one on this planet can defend when there is only two against four mothers like Ingles running at you. Smithy may have been out of position but had he not come inside there would have been a 10 yard gap between him and the next player. Very lazy defending.

Excellent. You've just exposed your huge club bias and lack of RL knowledge for everyone to see. Top move. icon_lol.gif

If you are not part of the solution then you are more likely part of the problem...:

As for RL knowledge, my point re Aussie's game plan of kicking behind Briscoe was there for all to see on national TV.

If you disagree with my view, what do you think Australia's game plan was specifically?

Did Australias game plan include running through the huge gap left in Englands defence by an AWOL Lee Smith?

Who needs to kick behind a winger or build pressure when one of the opposition centres rolls the red carpet out for the likes of Inglis to saunter through virtualy untouched.

And Fox would have combated this would he. Briscoe has pace and mobility and strength.

It wasnt the kicking behind Briscoe that beat us it was the more the fact that the cheeky Aussies kept passing to Greg Inglis you clown!!!!!

Of course they attacked down their left hand side GREG INGLIS PLAYS ON THAT SIDE.

Am I over simplyfying things here?

Probably not, but the chance arose whilst they were planning their kicks so they took them.

Which of Australia's tries came directly or indirectly from a kick behind Briscoe?

Kicking behind a winger is hardly an original tactic.

Australia's game plan was to kick well and move the ball wide quickly as they knew we would be unable to cope.

Suggesting that they had a plan based around Briscoe, or that Briscoe's performance had any material effect on the result is simply your typical blinkered bile and nothing more.

Still - well done on making yourself an even bigger laughing-stock and general figure of fun that you already were. Not a simple task by any means, but you accomplished it with some ease. icon_smile.gif

Absolutely. He was the top metre-maker for the team that finished 4th on the SL ladder.

Quote: B0NES "Briscoe has pace and mobility and strength.'"

Agree about strength - he's exceptionally strong. But he hasn't got any real pace and certainly not what you'd call mobile.

[size=200:1381yqo4] OLD FAITHFUL [/size:1381yqo4]:

Quote: General Zod. "The hard evidence proved the harsh reality that Tom Briscoe was way, way out of his depth as an international winger and for anyone to claim that it was a mistake to bring him off at half-time is nothing shirt of pathetic considering the hard evidence of a second-half scoreline of 16-0 is total vindication that it was the correct decision.

Whilst I partially agree that Briscoe "did nothing wrong" and Smith was for the more at fault in terms of defensive positioning, Tom Briscoe does not have the pace to counter long-range threats or neither the agility to turn quick enough to defend short-range kicks which made the Aussie game-plan easy.

In last weeks game against France, Tom Briscoe's lack of agility was exposed when Bosc put a kick through for Pelo and he took an age to turn and it was so obvious to anyone that the Aussie game-plan would be to kick behind Tom Briscoe knowing that by the time he recovered the ball, the defensive line would be smothering him, leaving England on the back foot without any chance of an effective "exit set".

Had Fox played in that position today, whilst he like Tom Briscoe couldn't have done anything about Smith's woeful positioning, the Aussies long range threat is nullified. For instance, where Tom Briscoe was making minimal gain on Inglis, Fox would have cut him down.

I think today's game proved that English players aren't all that bad as they are made out to be with Crabtree proving his worth (to many on this site who said he wouldn't) and also big raps to Westwood who proved me wrong.

If England are to win the final (should they beat NZ) then they have to nullify the the Aussies long-range threat, and if they are to do that properly, then Fox [ihas[/i to play.

The sad thing is, many FC fans would have been happy to leave Tom Briscoe on the pitch and see us get annihilated by 60+ just to save face.'"

Your sheer hatred for Hull FC really does show you up at times.
