| Quote wire-quin="wire-quin"I'm wondering if the jump from the championship to SL is just too much. Maybe a years grace should be given to promoted sides to settle the club for a 2nd year 'dig'.'"
This certainly has been suggested in the past, and was suggested by Lenegan when musing over changes to the current system. There is of course the alternative view that other clubs don't want every other year with no promotion.
Last time Leigh went up and straight down the problem was the play off system caused that, they actually managed 11th.
I'd leave ambitious clubs to have a whole year to build and go up........Leigh issue is the lateness of their promotion and they asked for this.....

I wonder if he "signs on" multiple times, under his various pseudonyms. He's probably loaded.

I fear that we will make minor changes as there's just a fear of change and a reluctance from super League clubs to vote in what's best for the sport long term over what's best for themselves. Citing quality as the reasoning why we should not expand we may dilute the talent pool initially but we will now have more sides training up potential players. I refuse to believe that we are finding every super League quality player or potential super League player from the lower leagues let alone at amateue and youth level as we only have the capacity to have X amount due to there being a low number of sides at the top level of the sport !!!
'"
An interesting post.
I think there would be a lot of support for a league with no "third fixtures". Also no marquee allowances etc to give the richer clubs more of an advantage.
OK Superleague may have introduced these things over the years to give SKY bigger and allegedly more attractive content, but if SKY aren't that bothered any more and are paying less then 14 English clubs all starting off on an even salary cap may well see more SKY subs sold in Bradford, Halifax, Widnes etc.
More derbies to sell as well........ Widnes/Wire Bradford/Halifax etc

| I dont know if Leigh are the worst ever SL team, only time will tell on that one.
However, compared to other clubs, they've certainly had the least time to prepare for the top flight, which is a huge disadvantage, especially for the first part of the season.
It's difficult to know who would be available but, I might have expected more in the way of players coming in, although, there may still be time..
Having said that, I'm sure that their application for the "golden ticket" will have said that they were absolutely ready and able to compete.
Would they have been better trying to gain promotion through the GF and then recruiting in the usual manner or, was this a chance too good to pass by.
Also, would any of the other applicants have fared any better. Again, only time will tell.

| Some interesting posts here. More ideas than the RL have has in years. Think the references to SL clubs protecting short term interests is right. Think whoever would have been promoted we would have been in same position. The lure of SL was to much to turn down, retrospectively the champ clubs should have negotiated the terms as they had some leverage at the time. When teams step on to effectively save RFL face should be some incentive. The lower budget on top of prep time was killer.

Great post Wrenners . With only less than 2k fans turning up at the LSV, the proof is in the pudding but, it looks like that the pudding doesn't taste good, hence the attendance. I agree with the part i have put in bold and underlined in your post. Having said that hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I've said before that, if/when Leigh get their best 13/17 on the pitch, they will win some games and still believe that they will.
The debacle at Toronto, coupled with covid and basically no Championship rugby last season made the situation extremely difficult and in fairness, there was no certainty of Championship rugby this season, which would have been an absolute killer.
Therefore, as you rightly say, Leigh had no choice but to throw their cap in the ring.
Personally, I think that Fev, on the basis of the GF defeat the previous season, were "heir apparent" and really the SL spot should have been theirs to refuse.
Having said that, with the depth of DB's pockets and Leigh's ability to be able to start and finish the season, it's easy to understand why they got the nod.
Leigh have some great fans and an excellent ground and I hope that you can some how survive, obviously not at Trinity's expense
Enjoy the rest of the season and hopefully, I may get to watch Your lads take on the Mighty Trin at your place.
I'll buy you a pint if we do

| Well Degsy certainly wasnt expecting them to be this bad. In his interview with Brain Carney before the 1st game of the season he said that after 6 games no one would consider Leigh relegation candidates and they would be comfortable in mid table at that point.
Yet here we are 11 games in they are winless conceeding 38 points a game on average

Can't disagree with that mate. Now then, Sun 12th September with a 3pm kick off, I'll be in the Centurion Pub @ 1pm to receive my pint off you. Hopefully we can talk about both Leigh & Trin surviving the drop. No doubt Trin will tho.
