| It has confused me for about 15 years that a club with the potential of Hull hasn't found a world class coach to properly cement them as potential champions. For me they are the only club in our country that could remotely aspire to 30k gates (not every week). Radford is a grafter and probably a great bloke, but him being head coach at Hull always baffled me.

| For those saying a new coach should have been in place for the pre-season, any new coach will effectively be having a mini pre-season with the impending postponing of the season. Will give time to get players up to speed with new ideas

It's pretty frustrating.
Kear 2005/06, promoted from an assistant - won the cup
Peter Sharp, assistant NRL coach, 2006-2008. great 06-07, awful start to 2008
Agar, promoted assistant, 2008-2011, awful
Gentle, NRL assistant, 2012-2013, underwhelming despite a cup final
Radford, promoted assistant, 2014 - unforgettable cup wins, but a lot of frustrating underachievement
Each one of those has been a gamble. For a change I'd like us to go and recruit that proven world class coach, but I fear that Last/Purtill will string a run of games together and one gets the role fulltime - that seems to be the Hull way.

You could do with Tony Smith from your beloved neighbours.
He' turned both Leeds and Wire into winning sides and he could do the same with FC.
Of all the current SL coaches, he would be as good as it gets. Maybe even Shaun Wane, to run alongside his international responsibilities.
With FC having such a strong physical side, he would have you playing hard and winning silverware.
Outside that, you may end up with a current Aussie assistant but, if they are successful, invariably, they tend to look for a head coach position back home.

If we're to bring in someone external, the likelihood is it'll be an NRL assistant I think, but it's still a bit of a gamble. As someone on the Hull forum barked at me, "what about McGuire, Robinson or Holbrook", yeh, true, but for each one of them there's at least one David Furner.
The next coach is critical for the club. There's been some heavy investment into the playing squad this year and we need the right man to capitalise on it.

If Leeds by far and away the best-supported team in SL can't manage 30k I see no possible chance that HUll could, possibly one of the most OTT comments I've ever seen on here and that's saying something! I get your point in that they are definitely one of the most viable teams in SL but 30k! Other than against an on-form HKR or at a pinch playoff game against say, Leeds, not a chance IMO.

KCOM holds 25k, so we'd struggle hitting 30k, but rather than focusing on that, I think his point was more that Hull as a club have been chronic underachievers for years, and can a top coach be the catalyst to waking up a sleeping giant and the club can reach it's full potential.
Calling Hull a sleeping giant might be a bit much, certainly it's a club not fully conscious.

| It actually aounded to me like Radford was more than ready to walk after that display. As if that was the straw that broke his back. Pearson said something to the effect of "Lee doesn't suffer fools lightly" and that gave the impression that after that tripe served up by his side he was personally done with the job and probably told Pearson afterward that he was off.
