Anything can be bi-polar. Going from one extreme to another. The Earth is bi-polar, a sports team can be bi-polar, the weather can be bi-polar.

As a mental health sufferer, I find it offensive when other people find offence in mild language which they think is offensive.

Why? Because people shouldn't be persecuted for minor things. It antagonizes people who want to support mental health and they might end up being resentful that they are painted to be a bad person for saying the slightly wrong thing, but with no ill intent.

Phil Clarke spouts a lot of nonsense, but this isn't the fight chief. Nothing wrong with what he said.

I undertook a 'creating a harassment free environment' training package at work recently and one area they said that should be considered is not asking someone from the LGBT community what they were doing that night, that weekend etc as it may be uncomfortable for them.

An idiot is someone with a profound intellectual disability or retardation, with an IQ from 0-25.

Yet these^ are far more commonly used words across society than the intentless term “bi polar”. It really isn’t a big deal that Clarke has said this.
