So a couple of weeks ago Zak Hardaker had to be seriously punished or kicked out of the game because the actions he was presumed (but interestingly never even vaguely proved) to have taken were so detrimental to the sports reputation in this country. Now Gary Hetherington is questioning the wisdom of signing someone who we know for a fact has repeatedly brought the game into disrepute through his actions and everyone is up in arms - and he's the one being accused of double standards.

I would have thought that the holier than thou brigade who were out in force for the past month would be fully behind Gary on this. Unless they're massive hypocrites who merely choose their stance dependent on which club's involved of course.

Or you could put it this way. GH has backed and supported someone who has made homophobic slurs on a rugby pitch and was investigated a second time for the exact same thing. He then goes on to say we don't want Carney in SL because of his reputation.

Erm no I haven't. You've come at it from the point that if people were calling for Hardaker's head then they should do the same for Carney. I reversed that saying if Hethrington backs Hardaker then he has no moral right to judge whether any team should sign Carney.

FWIW i don't think most posters on here called for Hardaker to be kicked out of the game at all. Most said he should get a long ban as punishment for his misdemeanour's.

Hardaker didn't do anything the second time around, that was Hetherington's stance and he hasn't been proven wrong therefore he is not being hypocritical and has every right to make a judgement on a serial offender. Our did you miss the bit where the RFL dropped the investigation against Hardaker?

Hardaker didn't have to do anything the second time to be honest, what he did the first time was bad enough. It is a bit galling for Hetherington to take this stance. Carney clearly has a problem with his behaviour when alcohol is present. I would think that a move away from the lime light of the NRL would probably help him. Surely at a time when the quality of super league is decreasing at a rate, the opportunity to have one of Australias best playing would be welcomed.

Hetherington also has to be careful, what if Hardaker was to make another comment, or other members of the Leeds side were to misbehave, I take it that they would be out the door and he would be banging the drum for banning them from the sport?

Which is why I said he was investigated. Hardaker is a serial offender. He got kicked out of the World Cup squad for being an idiot and then was banned for homophobic language. GH complaining about Carney signing for Catalan is like McDonalds complaining about Burger Kings burgers being bad for you.
