| Quote Ganson's Optician="Ganson's Optician"I fear this could be a huge mistake. Widdop was out June-September and has only played a handful of minutes for England the last few years. The only benefit I can see is that New Zealand will have spent all week studying Rangi Chase in video sessions.'"
But surely if the plan was to fool NZ we'd have still named Chase in the 19, as now they have 2 days to watch video's of Widopp instead.

| Where has this been announced? Can't see it anywhere.
If so, looking at the forwards, Ferres and Hill have been such a revelation, and I am guessing that having Ferres play beside Cudjoe helps the defence considerably on that side. I think any combination of Burrow/McIllorum/Roby would have worked but perhaps McN was using the last couple of weeks as a shoot out between the hookers and the 2 wingers. Happy with the outcome.
Farrell is too small, so Mossop must be the call there.
Am really surprised by Widdop's selection over Chase, but neither dismayed nor delighted. Shows courage on McN's part though.

Not got more to give. All I got is that two players (named as Chase and McIlorum) were asked to leave the squad earlier in the week. Seems to fit with neither being selected for this game, despite McNamara's attempts to keep the continuity of the half back pairing.
There's a tweet on my twitter feed earlier in the week where I hinted at disciplinary issues but nobody was able to confirm or deny.

| Quote christopher="christopher"Well it will be interesting for sure!, I would have liked to have seen Widdop play the full 80 before this game, but I do rate him and with Sinfield calling the shots it will be more like the role he plays for the Storm.
Hes OK anyway, if we fail to get to the final, Sinfield has already been lined up as the scapegoat so the pressures off Widdop
'"
I have nothing against KS and will not be blaming him for anyhing win or lose. I know he will be in but i just could not take him and Chase together. Now it could be KS&RB or RB&GW or KS&GW any of those are preferable to what we had.

| Id go
Tomkins
Charnley Watkins Cudjoe Hall
Sinfield Widdop
Graham Roby Hill
Surgess Westwood
O’loughlin
Burrow
Ferres
Gurgess
Ablett
Mossop hasnt really offered anything in the comp so far, Farrell is too small to be in the pack against these Kiwi monsters
Ablett is a bit bigger and offers an offload and covers the 3/4's

I'd agree with that, he's also a dirty, niggly player, who I can't stand in a Leeds shirt, but will happily support his antics on Saturday!

| Quote Andy Gilder="Andy Gilder"Except those of us who were told on Tuesday through contacts that both were in McNamara's bad books and wouldn't be playing in either the semi or final if England make it.'"
If this is true, then McNamara really needs to improve his man-management skills. It's all very well taking a zero-tolerance line, but part of the skill of management is avoiding getting to that line, and ensuring your staff do not want to cross it.
Obviously, you occasionally get nutters (Hock, anyone ?), but during this tournament, we've seen the loss/exclusion through misbehaviour of Hock, Graham, McIlorum, Hardaker and now possibly Chase. That's 20% of his entire squad. As a teacher, if I had 20% of any of my classes acting up in such a serious way as to reqire disciplinary action, it'd be me the boss would be looking at, not the kids. And that's kids. Grown adults are usually a bit more rational/reasonable (usually, Mr Hock).

Can't really pick between them to be honest, but Charnley's better form this season and his link-up play with Tomkins gives him the edge. Briscoe has suffered from barely getting a pass in HullFC's drab style of play for the last few years.

If any player has mis-behaved in the week before England's biggest game in decades then you have to question their motivation and intelligence.

| Charnley v Briscoe
Charnley is quicker, better feet, broader skills range.
Briscoe probably a better defender but that's without much research just the few games ive seen both pkay in.
Would have Charnley over Briscoe

I agree. But if one in five of your squad breach disciplinary rules so seriously they're permanently or temporarily excluded, then you have to question the nature of those rules, and the management of those players.
