| Looks like there's some great armchair refs out there, as usual with threads like these
Fact is, refs will make mistakes......they are human....
The day we see all teams completing 100% and missing no tackles through an entire game, then maybe we could expect refs to not make any mistakes in games......it will never happen.
Without refs we wouldn't have a game....if all who regularly slag them off feel that strongly about it, then get off yer backside and get on a refs course and progress through the ranks and see if you can do better than the current lot are!
The RFL need to show a set and go to town on comments like these.....
We all feel hard done to from time to time and sometimes our teams are unlucky on occasions....it's been happening for the last 100 years though and will happen for the next 100.....FACT...!

| Quote Saddened!="Saddened!"They do have a point. I'm not convinced it's entirely bias as opposed to sheer incompetence, but the refereeing in Super League is absolutely horrific. It's one of the main factors holding the competition back, they really are incapable of doing the job. The referees are low calibre individuals who have no consistency, composure or judgement and the touch judges are a farce. They are fat or old or so young they quiver whenever the crowd make a noise. They contribute nothing and ignore blatant rulings because they are too scared to get involved.
The refereeing really wouldn't be any worse if you took the average joe off the street and asked them to do it.'"
this season has seen the worst reffing since SL came to Perpignan IMO - not cheating just an in-built northern bias by refs with some extraordinary decisions going against the Catalans - decisions that were not even 50-50 calls in many cases
The worst culprits have been Messers Thaler, Roby and especially Ian Smith - ironically the worst reffing performance of the season at the Catalan home games was by Halibert who was absolutely appalling - it seemed as though he was deliberately not trying to show bias toward his countrymen, he was really OTT !
the biggest problem the french fans and I suspect the Catalans have against the officials (i'm a Saints fan BTW) is the constant need to verify everything with the VR - the attitude towards the Catalans appears to be 'find a reason why the try should stand' rather than find a reason why the try shouldn't be awarded' which are two different things.
the general level of SL reffing is disgraceful so far this season and it's about time refs on the field of play took more responsability and not take the easy option and call for Ian fookin' Smith !

who is going to fund it ?
who is going to watch it ?
it's like saying 'make the Championship a full time pro league' - totally unworkable !

penalty stats from the Toulouse Chapmpionship seasons prove the bias - something like a two or three to one in favour of the English clubs and TO13 were not a dirty side

| Quote nadera78="nadera78"A few years back the Broncos went to the RFL with all sorts of data from several years worth of games and proved to them that they were consistently getting less calls than the northern teams. And it wasn't just a few decisions either, it was a considerable difference. The RFL looked at it all, agreed that London were getting diddled, and then did nothing about it. If I remember rightly Phil Clarke also did some digging into this and came to the same conclusion. Now we see that Catalans get the same treatment. Northern refs give decisions to northern teams, it's a fact.
On a more general point though, Stuart Cummings was an awful referee and ever since he took over the standard of officiating in this country has deteriorated.'"
The Catalans were certainly on the end of some bad discisions when they played Saints 2 weeks agao or when ever it was.
The Broncos had some bad discisions against i thought last season, not this season as they have terrible.
I would say that since Super League began the London club have by a long way more 50/50 calls go aginst them than any other club.

| Last time I looked, Cats were 4th in the table, level on points with Saints. This bias needs some serious work to considerably up its game, as it's clearly not working.

| Quote wolfinwidnes="wolfinwidnes"Apparently the french club are convinced that decisions are deliberately going against them! around 500 fans walked out of the last home game due to video ref rulings.
Bernard Guasch said
the club also believe that the RFL do not want Catalans in the grand final as this would affect attendences. They believe that the referee cost them to lose against warrington and saint helens.
coach Trent robinson added
the RFL have made a statement of

I believe the committee at the Oxford English Dictionary are considering incidents like this are in future referred to as a "ferguson" as in, trying to influence the mindset of referees before big games.....nothing to see here, move along.

| Quote sanjunien="sanjunien"it proves that the officials gave a lot more penalties against TO13 especially away from home
it's not subjective at all - it's the truth
it's like me saying York are a dirty side which isn't true either
i've only ever witnessed cheating by a ref once at an RL game and that was an english ref down for a cup game between a french and english team several years ago - the game was fixed and it just so happened the ref was from the same town as the english team and was mates with the team members - it was a game which had to be won by the english team for logistical reasons - I was tempted to let on to the angry french crowd of this fact but didn't as the ref in question wouldn't have left the ground without being attacked - as it was he left with the english team on the coach which was stoned - it was a disgusting act of cheating by a ref who's still working in the system - I was supporting the english team BTW and had to pretend I was french to get out of the ground unscathed'"
It still doesn't prove bias. Toulouse would be expected to concede more penalties, they had the issue of travelling for away games, something which Catalans have only just started to get used to, Toulouse were one of, if not the weakest team in the comp. Weaker teams generally concede more penalties. There may be a language barrier between the ref & players. Toulouse wouldn't be used to how English refs referee the game, speed of the ptb, move call etc.
It also doesn't mean Toulouse were "dirtier" than other teams.
If penalty stats proved that bias then every season one team would end up thinking the refs were biased against them.
