| Quote Dunbar="Dunbar"Could you expand on the “don't even take it seriously” point please, the Manly team flew half way around the world and put out their best available team so why were they not taking it seriously? Or was it that the players weren’t trying?
Anyway, back to the point in question – top 4 teams would work well I think as it would be competitive
Week 1
NRL 1st vs. SL 4th
NRL 2nd vs. SL 3rd
NRL 3rd vs. SL 2nd
NRL 4th vs. SL 1st
'"
I like it. Wire, Wigan, Saints and Hudds. The others couldn't compete.

This...
Quote headhunter="Asgardian13"The danger with having any more than a one-off is that the final will end up being contested by two Aussie teams. The entire interest comes from it being GB v Aus.'"
...and this.
Surely each respective play-off run and GF is the playoffs to the WCC? Introducing a secondary play-off run in which non-champions can potentially go on and win a WCC is ludicrous and totally diminishes what the WCC is. The only expansion I'd consider legitimate would be including champions from other domestic competitions but... well.

| I'd like to see SuperLeague reduced to 10 teams before thinking about expanding the World Club Challenge...

Wake up, the original poster said that the top 4 would qualify, which would rule out Leeds based on last season's table.

| Quote Keith Swiftcorn="Keith Swiftcorn"1997 will live long in the memory
This was an expanded WCC which was organised in such a way that 4 Super League sides were to qualify for the Quarter Finals no matter how poor their results were. Consequently, St Helens and Bradford embarrassingly qualified for the QF's despite losing 6 out of 6 games against Australian sides. London Broncos qualified on the basis of 1 win out of 6 and Wigan on the basis of 2 wins out of 6.
By contrast, Penrith were eliminated and didn't qualify for the QF's despite winning 6 out of 6. Neither did Canberra with a 5 wins out of 6 record, or Canterbury with a 4 out of 6 win record.
I don't think there's any need to embarrass ourselves again with another expanded WCC.'"
In 1997, New South Wales won the State of Origin series 2-1. Queensland have won the last six series. In 1997, Bradford Bulls won the Super League, last year they finished 10th
Let’s not live our lives as if it's still 1997

| Heres one to chew on.
Scrap the English and Aussie play offs and just have a "world title" up for grabs between the top 4/5 clubs from each competition.
The SL and NRL titles could be claimed by the top of each league in the old fashioned way and there could be a "mied competition at the end of the season.
No need for additional fixtures, just a conundrum of where to stage the comp, plus no additional fixture cramming and this couls also act as one hell of a
build up to a $ nations or world cup etc.

We could even have a top 8 situation.
The first round played on home soil and then take the games to Aus or stage them here.
Certainly the Englih teams would be busting a gut, to be able to play their Aussie counertparts, dont know if the Aussies would be quite as enthusiastic ?

| it needs to be at the end of the season. the likes of mark riddell last year and danny buderus this year both missed out playing in the wcc because they had moved back to AUS. Whereas Darrell Griffin is now a world champion when he hasnt even won the league!
I've done a mock up of the current season to see what an extended 8 team WCC could look like, I know there isn't a 4N's planned for the end of the season but it shows it isnt difficult.

So the national squads would only get a week maximum to train together, of which most players would be recovering in.
