| 5 of the 10 top rating Pay TV sports shows are MNF. What the NRL need to do is be bending Foxtel over a table and be giving them a right good roger when the next TV deal is negotiated. For the top selling show on their channels they should be paying the top price. They are allegedly about to pay $80mill a year for all 9 live AFL games (most simucast with FTA). They should be paying at least that for 4 or 5 exclusive live NRL games plus replays of the other games.

yep exactly true

hopefully 7 or 10 push for monday night football hard and make fox pay market value
i see no reason why we dont get $1 billion too, though we really only need $800 million, anything above is a bonus

Could be brilliant news for the NRL. With Ch10 and Ch9 bidding against each other we could see some serious $'s coming our way!
www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/s ... 6043830115
Seems like Fox is going all out for AFL to boost its subscriptions in AFL states. Of course that could leave them wide open to losing their monopoly on NRL and see massive subscription losses in NSW and Q'land if FTA picks up majority of games and shows them nationally. Given the size of the viewing audience on Fox for NRL a very risky gamble it seems.

10 to challenge nine for Friday and sunday games and origin
10 maybe also to bid for MNF
the big one is foxtel
they are paying AFL most of their increase despite poor ratings
whatever AFL gets from Foxtel, we should get 50% more
anything less and News LTd has done it again
i think we are a good chacne at $1 billion

This may be a stupid question, but I remember Monday Night Football back in 1996 being awesome. They made into a massive special event with the SFS nearly full several weeks including that epic Roosters-Broncos game.
So what went wrong?

some clubs are complaining about the slightly lower than average crowds
i think the figures are only 3000 less than a normal game
MNF isnt going anywhwere
clubs are jut whinging to get more money to cover lower crowds
MNF is the highest rating program pretty much every week for Foxtel
around 400k viewers per game

Dally is misleading MJM this time. Let's examine the facts and not they way they've been painted by Dally.
Even if 3,000 was right. That can easily be 20% of an average home attendance. Not good!!!
Quote dally messenger="dally messenger"clubs are jut whinging to get more money to cover lower crowds'"
And so they bloody well should, they're losing money
Let's look at this article again quoting NRL CEOs
www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/nrl ... 6025679565
The Rabbitohs chief executive, who is leading a groundswell of club complaints against Monday night football, has estimated the round six match against the Dragons will cost Souths $205,000 in potential earnings from ticket, corporate and merchandise sales.
[iIf Souths play 4 MNF games at home, they can lose over $1m p.a.[/i
And Bulldogs boss Todd Greenberg said his club had already lost as much as $300,000 in ticket sales by having the opening round game against the Tigers on a Monday night instead of Sunday afternoon.
[iBulldogs would lose even more! And that figure doesn't mention corporate or merchandise as the Rabbitohs one did[/i
400,000 viewers watch it according to forms of data collection they are known to be a massive average. However, taking that at face value. That doesn't help the clubs who are losing money hand over fist at the moment when they get told what day they have to play on. Until the new TV deal comes into effect then some of that money will hopefully go to compensate the clubs who are struggling at the mo with the Monday Deal. But that won't matter apparently cos 400,000 are sitting at home watching them!

So what were they doing in 1996 that brought the crowds in that they aren't doing now?

| How can it be costing Souths ticket money when they are paid to play at the ground a set fee regardless of crowd size? Merchandise sales, really? Corporates I can understand though I would have thought it easier to get companies to have outings on a Monday night straight from work than on a Sunday afternoon.

The clubs are given a lump sum to entice them to play there by the stadia, so the stadia can earn money. They still get a cut of gate receipts. Dally wouldn't know this as he only knows what is said about RL through news reports.
He mentions 3,000 as though it's nothing. Yet look at the cheapest ticket on offer for an adult for South's next game. $25. That's 75,000 just for people if they all went into the cheapest seats.
premier.ticketek.com.au/shows/Sh ... sh=RAB1311
Is Todd Goldberg talking BS aswell?
As we said clubs are losing money they can't afford to at the moment when they are TOLD they are playing on a Monday. 400,000 people sitting at home on their arsés at home matters not a jot at the moment to them. If the new TV deal means they will get a few more quid to cover their loses on MFN, then fine, but in the meantime, they ARE losing money. Which is not good.
Oh and interesting to see Dally saying that NRL CEOs talk BS. Shame on you.
*** $75,000 is more than some of the first grade squad are getting at Souths. One game ($205k quoted) would pay for a few of these player's annual salaries. But that's not a problem. 400,000 watch it on telly.
