When Union was still amateur or just changed that is the difference.. it would be a lot different now.
You say fielding a kick. whats so hard about that then. thats easy when you only have to take a tackle and play stops. What about the union back 3 with all his options and play doesnt stop.?
'"
One word answer to that.....
'Mark'.
The player doesn't even need to take a tackle in Union.

| I grew up with Union.....loved the 5 nations (now 6) and played as an amateur for a London Based club now situated in berkshire. I went to 1 game of League and thought....bu99er me...thank god I am retired!
Union....and I still watch it, has become so boring that they change the rules every 3 years. This years super 14 threw up a 72-65 scoreline....people in Aus/NZ/Safrica were creaming themselves over the new rules........
sorry, but was tackling made illegal in these new rules? 137 points in 80 minutes? That's basketball (another non contact sport BTW)
Union is still a good game and a good day out if you are lucky enough to be able to get a ticket to Twickenham to watch the Irish beat England....but league is streets ahead in fitness, skill and durability levels.....and probably always will be. Problem is, until the sausage buriers at the BBC and the rest of the UK media realise it, all we will be spoon fed is kick and clap!
Shane Williams would last 1 season in a good RL team......but to say the welsh back line could stand toe to toe with any league backline (and I include London Skolars in that) is just insane

i enjoyed reading that
what can you say about union except its s**t
the only good thing to ever come from union is RL.
union is less a sport and more a political movement aimed at keeping the game from being controlled by the working class

northern rail... you are having a laugh arent you.?'"
The biggest Rugby comp on Earth.
The comp that gets over 3 million paying spectators a year (more than the two biggest union comps on Earth combined)
The comp that get over 128 million TV viewers in Australian Capitals only each year
The comp that sells over $100 million worth of merchandise a year
The comp that gets paid over double a year what any union comp gets.
Do you need any more?
Quite funny actually, the NRL in Australia alone gets more people watching Friday night footy than the S14 gets in Aus, NZ and South Africa combined
Need any proof on that last one mate?

If he does, I can help him.
Wellington Hurricanes frst 2 home games this season.....11,000 at each. The wendyballers of the pheonix had 24k 2 weeks ago and have sold all 35k for this week........and there's me thinking Rugby Union was a religion in New Zealand ....11,000 for a super 14 franchise in the CAPITAL of the country and they get owned 2 weeks running by the wendyball lot.

You just cant compare football to anything as its way more popular than any sport.!
Look as i say before i like both codes of rugby.
BUT
Union is way more popular across the globe played in more countries, more players and supporters. Ok you might get more fans in Oz but that becuase of its popularity its like baseball properly more fans of that in china and america than anywhere else in the world yet who gives a dam else where same with Ice Hockey in Amercia and canada.?
You cant compare what Jonathan Davies said etc as he came from an amteur back round in Union its totally different now i would say union players are more professional and expereinced these days as they play in so many different competitions and teams and tour lots of different countries.
You say union players never make it yet all the players from the late 80s early 90s from wales where good players, ellis, davies, quinell, gibbs, bateman, devereux etc
Yet RL converts have rarely done well but the exception of Robinson and Tuqri, harris did ok in flashes but was way to inconsistent and seemed to go missing in games(very strange as you seem to think RL players where fitter and more alert etc)
I like both sports but to say union players wont make it in SL is way off mark expecially the talented welsh and irish backs. As to be honest there aint many decent british backs in SL are there.... look at the wingers.... there aint much quality about is there.?
Im a beleiver that there are nataural gifted, good, average and poor players in both codes of rugby. And i see no reason why a talented back in Union cant do well in RL as the fact is RL is a far simpler game to. Where in Union there are far more things to think about and this is where the RL converts to union struggle with the technical side of things.

That doesnt mean anything.?
Do you know what games Phoenix have been playing in.?
They are playoff games.!
Wellington Hurricanes themselves will get over 30000 in a semi final play off game easy.
I checked Wellington Phoenix first 2 homes games they had 9k and 10k.
So its utter rubbish.!

This is about Rugby is it not?
So what has boggerball got to do with it?
And if you must know, the NRL gets more people watching the game on TV out here than the boggerball.
And lastly, Convict creations is a union site, run by halfwits that post anything they hear in a pub conversation as fact.
