| I can't beleive the good DR has spent 12 months putting out fake PR after fake PR for Salford, then has the audacity to be critical of someone elses fake PR.
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. If he wants more money in RL, then you don't talk down anything, because other wise when the next deal is up for bidding , they will bid you down.
With a sponsorship deal you should be pushing the value of the deal to the maximum, so the next time round other bidders are aiming higher and not lower.
To try and under cut the story on the first day shows that he has well and truely joined the ranks of the RL establishment of fans. People who can't help but put foot in mouth about the game.
If he has an issue with the deal, there have been and will be plenty of RL and SL meetings for him to bash heads and demand better.
It's as though we can't help ourselves, from running our own game down. I'm sure First Utilities are delighted with the open and negative spin they have got from this. I'm sure lots of other sponsors are looking at the fans reaction and saying, hmmm there is a tempting offer, sponsor a sport and get slated for it.

| It's reasonable to conclude the size of the sponsorship deal in terms of money handed over is nothing to shout about from the rooftops... otherwise details would have been provided with accompanying huge fanfare as opposed to the policy of confidentiality and keeping schtum.

| Quote: loiner81 "Why does everything with you have to be compared with RU? It's a different sport played that most of us could care less about....'"
You don't care...but
Quote: loiner81 " How did the last RU WC go? Biggest drop in attendances in the history of the sport wasn't it? The RL WC broke records left right and centre. '"
If you think the drop in attendances was bad for RWC 2011, look away when it comes to the increase in 2015 you really are an idiot aren't you? New Zealand, population 4 million and change....RLWC 2013 host nations 100,000,000+.........which comp has a million more spectators and not a double header in sight?
The combined attendances from the 13 RLWC's 1954-2008 was less than the 2007 RWC managed on its own......do you want to compare the World Cups some more?
As for the Sponsorship deal......if it were all cash, the RFL would have said it was. It is a contra deal with a % of the money dependant on how many fans sign up to this company for gas and power. If you think otherwise, then fine, but it would show exactly how naïve and in denial you really are

If it was a contra deal, surely they would have said in the press release to get more fans signed up so First:Utilities get more customers, SL more money. I can't see it been something they wouldn't mention. However i did notice in the press release they said "unique deal" so we shall wait and see.
I think cash has been exchanged. £750k over 3 years is the figure been most put about. If they have a contra deal as well, it may not be too bad a deal. Many RL fans will switch to product just because the support RL. So could get some decent money off that.
Yes it is some way off the engage deal which shows how much the Stobart deal hurt the sport and people should have lost their jobs for that. However £250k per year, plus % money back on contra deal is a damn lot better than £0 and a 100 painted lorries. Hopefully we can build on this deal and have more bargaining power come 3 years time.

| I don't think anyone has mentioned yet that the press release stated that this is the first of a series of announcements regarding sponsorship.

| Where has it been said it's not a cash deal?
The only figures I've seen on articles if £750k per year for 3 years.

Yeah just read few articles that say £750k per year. At first heard a lot of whisperings it aas £750k over 3 years. That's a very good deal IMO considering the position we out ourselves in.

You can call it what you want, but don't be under the illusion it's good deal. At £250k a year it's £343 a week per club better than the Stobart deal but £1,300 a week less per club than Engage.........The RFL press department will have been fielding calls all week from Journalists enquiring as to the details of the deal. If they were good, then we'd have read about them by now...they aren't!

| Two organisations not disclosing the financial details of a deal is hardly a shock.
I do wonder what people expect at times, Keith Chegwin knocking at the door of Red Hall with a massive cheque signed to the RFL perhaps.
