Quote: Bonzo "
I shouldn't have bothered replying, because despite being faced with facts (even from some Wakey fans) you're still coming out with the same drivel. Why is it drivel? Because it's full of bias against a club who you clearly don't associate as having a face that fits with the elite and your replies prove that you're completely incapable of looking at it objectively. '"
or you could simply answer the question. I didnt say Cas cant do this that or the other, simply asked how they are execting to do it.

Quote: Bonzo "Tell me, why do people from the Bradford, Wakefield, Huddersfield and even Castleford areas watch Leeds? How do they identify with Leeds? Why wouldn't they go and watch Bradford, Wakefield, Huddersfield or Castleford? After all they all have teams competing at the same level.'"
Because Leeds is a the third biggest city in the country, many people will have historic and family links with it. It is around 20 times bigger than Castleford, so the same cannot be said of Cas. However the vast vast vast majority of Leeds sales are still to people from Leeds or living in Leeds.
Quote: Bonzo "
If anything Cas should be praised for holding onto such a consistently loyal fanbase over the years despite the many challenges and times of adversity the club have faced. But maybe rlthings are looking uprl these days...'"
good on them. How can they grow it? thats all im asking for. And the only answer seems to be people from Leeds and Wakefield are randomly going to decide one day they are from a very small town they havent really been to before.

They were at one stage, and Arsenal have built that. They have built their identity as the 'North London Club''"

So why can't Cas do the same as the 'East West Yorkshire' club?'"

Do people identify themselves as being from East West Yorkshire?

I know if you speak to a lot of people in London they will happily say they are from North London, or Sarf Landan etc.....

I've never heard anyone describe themselves as being from East West Yorkshire'"

Quite, it's ridiculous. And living in London, I know plenty of people from North London who support a different North London club - Spurs - whose fanbase it's fair to say isn't confined to the borders of Tottenham.

Point is, people identify with clubs regardless of what the name of that club is. I'm sure the vast majority of Manchester United fans around the globe have never been to Manchester. Some are probably unaware that Manchester is actually a place. Man Utd attract fans because of their success. With the increased opportunities afforded to Cas at a new ground, there's no reason they can't become successful on the field as well as off it, and no reason why their fanbase cannot have a reach outside of the five towns.'"

And Man Utd did an unbelievable amount of work to do that. Man Utd do a ridiculous amount of work overseas and in other areas. Massive. It was fantastic foresight. They player games all over the world, have shops all over the world, they have supporters clubs all over the world, websites in different languages and worked very very very hard to sell themselves as something other than a Manchester football club, they sell the story, the history, the busby babes and all that jazz.

Barcelona compete, they do it even more obviously, Barcelona F.C [iMés que un club[/i More Than a Club! They sell themselves as the Catalan Giants, who dont just win they do it in style with a Catalan flair. They position themselves as the apposite of those big boys with all the help, the states favourite galacticos.

That is the question i am asking you. Are Castleford doing anything to sell themselves to other areas. Are they doing anything to present themselves as something other than the RL club of a small northern town and expecting this stadium to just mean people all of a sudden decide they are from a place they have barely ever been to?'"

It's not a bad base to start working from is it?

Rome wasn't built in a day. If more SL clubs looked past their immediate doorstep, the sport would grow a lot faster than just chucking clubs into random places in the world and expecting the locals to take to it.

The smallest place in the most saturated market? Well yes, its pretty much the worst place to start.

But yes clubs do need to look past their immediate doorstep. But they need to actually do something if they are to succeed, and no one seems to be able to say what if anything other than 'hoping' Cas are doing.

I did, in the first reply I made. You simply chose to ignore it. As for [ihow[/i they plan to do it, I'm not a marketing person. The article linked to in my previous reply may be a decent starting point though.
