| can we start a petition to stop barrie saying kick the ball "off the island!"
i bloody hate it when he says it, if it was once a game, then i'd let it go, but any ball that goes into touch.
Bill arthur has started saying it as well when commentating.

| Barry and Terry are great for the other RL programmes, injecting humour into the sport, keep them off the live commentary though, just perpetuates the 'northern' stereotype.

Not so much that as they don't offer anything at all to the broadcast. They have no real insight or knowledge of the game, and unlike Stevo they are inarticulate and don't add any real excitement either. They are also borderline unprofessional, there have been several occasions where the other commentators have had to tell them off for condoning on-field violence. Being northern isn't their problem, being unintelligent is. Jon Wells is northern and he is a million miles ahead of Barrie and Terry, even Phil Clarke makes them sound like utter morons. In a different era they could've probably got away with it but they stand out like a sore thumb on modern sports broadcasts.

Plenty of RL supports condone on field violence.
Many a dull game and a quiet crowd has been jumped into life by a fracas.
It's not all clean play out there!!!
But I would suggest that by your name you already know that.

There's a difference between getting excited at a blow-up in the way that Stevo would and actively condoning someone being punched in the face. Especially in modern sport with the issues surrounding concussions, in fact the NRL have banned punching completely yet here we have commentators egging players on, commending them for "standing their ground" and including potentially dangerous acts of foul play on their highlight reels. RL in this country really is still in the dark ages in a lot of ways.

Couldn't agree more - and now it's got to the point that when there is foul play, Eddie jokes with them about the fact that they'll celebrate it in their 'big hits' reel later in the week.
I like Barrie Mac in some contexts - if Sky had bothered with any kind of magazine show to complement the SL games, he'd fit right in as comic relief; but the other fella is cringeworthy; it's baffling that Wells is consigned to standing in front of a big telly in his overcoat, whilst O'Connor continues to get a commentating gig.

He's bad but not quite as bad as Robbie Savage, or Mark Lawernson or Garth Crooks.

| I mute the TV every time Phil Clarke opens his mouth, he seems to start speaking with no idea where his sentence will end and just keep talking. He can't make a succinct simple point about the game without making it into some incredible defining fact.
'In my opinion Warrington will have to score the next try to have any chance of winning this game and I think the next team to score will definitely win the game and go on to win the match because of their ability to score the next try of the game which could be a season defining moment for them and see them go all the way to the grand final and transform the club into a global superpower of Rugby League, or either code of rugby for eternity and maybe the whole universe. Possibly. Over to you Eddie.'

| Terry O'Connor is the Michael Owen of rugby league.
"It's about turning up for one another"
"Big guy isolating the little man"
"Running harder than your opponents"
"Putting in the big shot to lift your side"
"Making the hard yards up the middle"
"Trying to kid the referee"
"Taking the juice out the tank"
"Insert x coach - will be saying we need to be better in the second half to win this match"
"Muscling up in defense"
"About saying to the opposition, you are going to have to run harder than us to win this match"
